The Confusing Middle’s Top 10 Blog Posts of 2017

I did this last year. And the year before that. Being the third year in a row, I guess we can now call the Top 10 an annual tradition. This is the post where I look back at the previous year and make a list of the blog posts that got the most traffic throughout the year. For this list, I’m only including posts that were written in 2017. That means that, even though that post I wrote about hating GEICO has received more than 4,700 views since it was posted in 2015, it doesn’t count.

Sidebar: I’m not sure why that post continually gets so much traffic. On a daily basis, though, it’s the one post that receives the most views out of anything that I’ve ever written. I’m not sure what the draw is… Unless I’m just luring people in who are seeking affordable car insurance. For the record, I was angry at GEICO the day I wrote that post. But I still have GEICO for car insurance.

Anyway… This list won’t necessarily reflect my personal top 10 blog posts of 2017. That’ll come later this week. So here are these. If you missed them the first time, be sure to check them out.

IMG_143310. That Week I Spent a Day in Roanoke (September 18, 2017)
I’m not one to take a vacation very often. Probably not as often as I should, anyway. Toward the end of the summer, I decided to spend a covert week in my hometown. Yeah, it’s only a half hour drive from where I currently live. But it was about the most relaxing vacation I’ve ever had.

9. So… I’m Doing Whole30 (February 3, 2017)
This is a great reminder of where I was nearly a year ago. I look back and, at times, still wonder what I was thinking jumping on board the Whole30 train with a handful of co-workers.

8. One Day More – An End to Whole30 (March 2, 2017)
I was somewhat excited about coming to the end of Whole30. So excited, I came at it Broadway style.

7. What I Learned from Whole30 (March 3, 2017)
The only thing I can figure is that people do a search for Whole30 and stumble upon this handful of blog posts I did regarding my experience with the diet temporary lifestyle change.

anna-wake-up6. A Dater’s Guide to Disney Princesses: Anna (January 3, 2017)
This wasn’t my favorite of this series of posts, but I guess the enduring popularity of Frozen makes this one a post that people want to read. Funny that Anna gets more hits than Elsa.

5. Question of the Week #104 (February 18, 2017)
I asked the question: Would you be willing to give up sex for five years if you could have wonderfully sensual and erotic dreams any night you wished? I didn’t even give a long, drawn out answer. Can anyone explain why this one is popular? Is it just because of the keywords “sex,” “sensual,” and “erotic”?

4. Time for a Break (July 6, 2017)
This is when I took a month or so off from blogging so I could go to Istanbul and move. With this being in the top five, I can only assume that many people were excited about me taking a break and wish that I would do so again.

3. The Silverfish Scenario (May 17, 2017)
Turns out, this blog post wasn’t about a silverfish at all. It was about a house centipede. Whatever. It’s still a disgusting nightmare creature and I’ll kill them every time I see them.

2. Whole30 Update: One Week Later (February 8, 2017)
Ugh… another Whole30 post? And this was when I was at rock bottom. Maybe my misery was entertaining. I don’t know…

1. Cyberbullying and Suicide (August 17, 2017)
I’m almost not surprised that this is number one. What I am surprised about is that I didn’t receive any really negative responses to what I wrote. I remember thinking it was going to be pretty controversial before I sat down to write it. Maybe it would have been more controversial if it were read by more than a few dozen people.

There you have it. These are the top 10 posts voted on by your patronage. Come back later this week for my 10 favorite posts of the year. Some of these might overlap, but I don’t know. In order to do my 10 favorite, I’m going to have to actually read through everything I posted in 2017. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

  1. Nice list, and sorry I can not help myself. When GEICO really was the Government Employee Insurance Company they were honest, transparent, and a great value. But then they sold out to the worst of corporate America. And in the transition they were so full of melancholy it was ridiculous. I dropped them like a hot potato and happily never looked back. You can do better then GEICO regardless of the fortunes they spend on marketing (as opposed to customer service).
