While parking late at night, you slightly scrape the side of a Porsche. You are certain no one else is aware of what happened. The damage is minor and would not be covered by insurance. Would you leave a note?
There was a time when I would say no, I wouldn’t. My logic would be that I can’t afford to get some stranger’s Porsche fixed out of pocket. Also, over the years, I’ve gotten dozens of scratches on my various cars and have never received a note from anyone. But… my conscience would kill me forever. So… I would leave a note.
…with a fake phone number. BOOM!
Would you take the time to leave a note on the expensive car?
*The Question of the Week can be found in The Book of Questions by Gregory Stock, Ph.D.
I’d probably qualify it. If they were parked correctly, I’d leave a note because it’d totally be my fault. If they were parked completely crooked and over the line, as if they just don’t care about those spaces (and others) around them, then I probably wouldn’t. I’m sorry, but Porches are tiny- either learn to park it correctly or learn that not doing so may get your car mildly scratched.
Would you feel guilty for disturbing whomever was the actual holder of the fake number you gave? Or would you use 867-5309 and assume that they knew what they were in for?
