Remember that time when I got called into the office and was given a $50 gift card for basically doing my job? If not, you can click here for the memory jog…
Anyway, I decided to treat myself with that $50 gift card by buying something I didn’t need, but by buying something I wanted. And I believe it was yoyoliving who left a comment suggesting I buy another LEGO set. And I thought that was a pretty good suggestion. So when I jumped on the Walmart website intent on spending the $50 that had just been handed to me, I did a search for LEGO.
You see, I had recently purchased and built the LEGO version of the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future. It was my first ever LEGO set. Well… first as an adult. I had LEGO sets as a kid, but nothing as elaborate as what they make these days. I mean, the most complicated set I ever had was a small one-man space ship that could fit in the palm of my hand… at the age of eight.
I was a little afraid that building the DeLorean would awaken a sleeping giant… one that I knew I would be unable to regularly feed due to the expense of purchasing more LEGO sets. Also… tiny apartment. Where am I meant to display each of my completed LEGO projects? At the moment, the DeLorean sits on the bottom shelf of a small bookcase. I mean… it’s 3/4 of an inch off the floor. Not exactly a position of honor, you know?
But I was ready for another LEGO project. Scrolling through the options available through the Walmart website, I came across a number of potential purchases that I would have been willing to buy. I wasn’t holding myself to a set that was exactly $50. I figured I could swing the extra if I went as high as, say, $100.
And then I came across this…
At $82, I figured it was just right. And I’ve always been a huge fan of Friends, so I figured… why not? It was down to this or a LEGO Infinity Gauntlet, as seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It came in the mail Friday and this is how I spent my Saturday afternoon and evening. Because I have no social life. But at least I have my Friends. See what I did there?
It wasn’t particularly difficult to put together. Definitely not as complicated as the DeLorean had been. But I have definitely awakened a snoozing giant and I want more LEGO. My friend Andy informed me that I am now what is known as an AFOL – “Adult Fan of LEGO.” I’m okay with that. Again, the issue comes with figuring out how to fund my new hobby and determining where to display each of the projects I complete. Right now, I only have to worry about the two I’ve done thus far. But I know more are in my future.
Like I said… that Infinity Gauntlet looked pretty good…
I LOVE THIS!!!
but why is lego so expensive?!
