Question of the Week #329

Do you feel comfortable going to dinner or movies alone? Would you rather be by yourself in such a situation or with someone you only marginally enjoy?

I absolutely feel comfortable going to dinner or movies alone. I just went to see a movie by myself yesterday, as a matter of fact.

As for whether I’d rather be alone or with someone else… depends on the someone else. And it kind of depends on the situation, too. I think, when it comes to going out to eat, I’d rather be with another person. Because then you can have conversations and interact. If I’m alone, I may as well get take out and eat at home. Which is probably why I DoorDash so much…

At the movies, though, there really isn’t a need to talk, even if your best friend is sitting right next to you. I mean, I’m all for talking through movies I’ve seen on repeat and treating the whole thing like Mystery Science Theater 3000. But if it’s my first time and I’ve paid too much money to see something on the big screen, I expect us all to sit in silence. Therefore, I’m perfectly content seeing a movie alone.

But what about you? Are you the type who can go to the movies or out to eat by yourself or do you need someone to accompany you? Let me know what you think down in the comments!

  1. I’m comfortable doing both alone. When I was living in South Korea, I often had to do things alone. All the time the first year that I lived there because I didn’t really make any friends outside of work, so I just took the courage to start going out alone. I don’t do it too much here in Canada, cos you’re right things like uber eats and door dash make it so easy to get the food and eat at home. Or even just ordering it and going to pick it up at the restaurant and going back home to eat it lol
