You are invited to a party that will be attended by many fascinating people you’ve never met. Would you want to go if you had to go by yourself?
A social butterfly like me? No, probably not.
Wait, how fascinating are we talking? Is it, like, a list of every person I’ve ever thought would be awesome to meet in one room? Anna Kendrick? Jimmy Fallon? Chris Pratt? Alison Brie? David Hasselhoff?
I don’t know… still probably not.
Look, it’s not that I don’t like meeting fascinating people. It’s just that I don’t like meeting new people. I mean, I’ll do it when the occasion calls for it. But if I’m likely to be thrown into a gathering where there is a lot of people and I’m the only one there I know, I will just be miserable for however long I’m there. If I’ve been invited to this shindig, I’ll feel obligated to stay for at least an hour or so. But I’ll begin wishing I could just leave about 5 minutes in.
Would you go to this fascinating party all by your lonesome?
