YouTube Spotlight: Inside of You

Really, this post’s YouTube Spotlight should have the full title, Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum. But titles that get too long annoy me. Even when they’re my titles.

Okay, class… Raise your hands if you know the name Michael Rosenbaum. Do you know who he is? Anyone? Anyone? If you’re shouting the correct answer at your computer screen, give yourself a pat on the back.

Michael Rosenbaum is an actor who has appeared in a number of films and television series. Mostly, I’ve known him as one of the best actors to portray Lex Luthor in history. For seven years, Rosenbaum played a young Lex Luthor on Smallville, reappearing for the series finale at the end of the 10th season. And as much as Smallville was about Clark Kent’s journey to become the hero we know as Superman, it was just as much about Lex Luthor’s descent into villainy.

These days, Michael Rosenbaum is hosting his own podcast called Inside of You where he interviews different celebrities each week. Of course, the podcast is available where podcasts are available, but he also uploads a video version of his show to his YouTube channel, which is where I catch his newest episodes.

When I started paying attention to his show, at first, I was only watching episodes where he interviewed people I was interested in finding out more about. But the interviews are so good, I’m willing to watch all of the new episodes he releases, no matter who’s on the other side of the microphone.

He’s been doing this thing for years, and I really don’t know how long. And I really only got pulled in during quarantine last year. So I never really watched it when he had his guests meeting with him for a face to face interview in his home studio. But since I’ve been watching, all the interviews have been done via Zoom or Skype or some other such internet application used for video conferencing.

I’m not sure it’s right to really call what Michael does with his celebrity friends interviews. I mean, yes, they are interviews. But they’re really more like conversations. Rosenbaum just sits there and talks to his guest. And there’s no real agenda. At least none that I can detect. I mean, it’s possible they go into these things with a general idea of where the conversation will go. But, to me, the conversations that happen appear to be very organic and just flow naturally. That’s what keeps me coming back week after week, no matter who his guest is.

Each weekly episode usually runs an hour or more, so it’s a bit of a time commitment, but it’s a show that’s worth watching in my opinion. Here’s a link to the channel again if you’re interested in checking it out. Or if you don’t want to click the link, here’s a recent episode featuring Zachary Levi, who you may know from Chuck, or Shazam, or as Eugene “Flynn Ryder” Fitzherbert from Tangled.
