Question of the Week #224

What is the most serious law you’ve broken doing something you thought was morally right, wouldn’t hurt anyone, or was no one’s business but yours? How bad would the punishment have been if you’d been caught and given the maximum sentence?

I have been racking my brain and I can’t think of a single time I’ve broken the law in order to do something I thought was morally right. That’s not to say I haven’t broken the law before. I often drive too fast. I’ve run the occasional red light. But those aren’t instances of taking a moral high ground. They’re just because I’m in a hurry.

Let me clarify the running a red light thing… I’ve never intentionally run a blatantly red light. I’ve floored it to try and beat a yellow light, which I’ve read can be ticketed the same as running a red. I’m sure I have blown straight through one or two red lights and/or stop signs simply because I was distracted. Again… no moral high ground there.

What about you? Have you ever broken the law because it was the right thing to do? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I have never broken the law in any way that I think this question is asking. But I did, once, take $2 from my work. It was my first job, I was 15, it was cold and I didn’t want to walk home, and I didn’t make any tips that day (it was at a restaurant) and I had to be back in 4 hours Cos I had a split shift, so I took $2 to take the bus home. And I still feel guilty 😬🥺
