Question of the Week #13

QuestionWhat would constitute a “perfect” evening for you?

This all hinges on how I’m feeling on the evening in question. Not to sound anti-social or anything, but, more often than not, my perfect evening will involve me kind of being by myself. No talking. No noise. No paperwork.

That’s not the case all the time. There are some people who are currently in my life and some who are only in my life occasionally these days whom I would love to spend an evening with. Talking. Noise. Still no paperwork. Maybe a movie or some outdoor activity.

Either way, whether I’m with people or alone, the perfect evening wouldn’t be perfect without some time outside. The soft glow of the setting sun would cover the world in… um… a soft glow. (I donated platelets this morning, so my brain might not be completely firing. More on that later. Or another time. Maybe.) Anyway, it’d be a warmish evening (around 70F) with no humidity. Also, no mosquitoes. Also, somewhere near the water: a river… a lake… the ocean… I’m not picky. I won’t be getting in the water, I just find it soothing.

Now, I know I suggested that, if it was a hang-out-with-people kind of evening, a movie would be a possibility. How could one do this? Well, I don’t necessarily think the drive-in is a necessity (even though those are swell, don’t get me wrong). I’ve seen things on Pinterest where people have set up outdoor movie viewing areas in their back yards, which I just think look super cool. Wait, why am I not just posting a picture of one I’ve seen? (Brain’s still not firing.)

Bonus points to the first person who identifies the film that these find folks are watching. There's no actual prize, just the satisfaction of knowing you got it right in front of about a dozen witnesses who happen to stumble across this blog.

What’s your perfect evening? Does such a creature exist?

  1. A few “perfect” scenarios.
    1. Under the shade of a tree on a 60-70F day, listening to the leaves rustle from a soft breeze, with a good book, sweet tea, and the sun beginning to set.
    2. Around an evening campfire just about anywhere and watching flames die down, morphing into crackling embers that slowly shift colors from purplish-red to red into orange. Perfect time for deep thinking and reflection. If I’ve had introverted time in the past week, then a good conversation partner. If not, then by myself.
    3. Curled up in a chair with a blanket, a book, and a hot cup of tea while sitting next to a window and listening to/watching the rain fall. It’s not too cold or warm out and only the occasional breeze drifts by so I can open the window and smell the rain as I read.
