Bloganuary the Second

Welcome back to Bloganuary! WordPress is putting together these writing prompts each day throughout the month of January to encourage bloggers to post something everyday. Today, they post the question: What is a road trip you would love to take?

I have always wanted to do a cross-country road trip. It’s on my Bucket List. However, at this point in my life, I really don’t know how realistic it would be to pull something like that off.

At one time, I planned out a route that would take me from my home in Virginia, through Kentucky and into southern Illinois, to a town called Metropolis, home of the annual Superman Festival. Of course, I’d have to plan accordingly and be there in time for the festival.

After this, I would drive over to Iowa to spend some time with my cousin and her family before heading up to South Dakota so I can say I’ve seen Mount Rushmore with my own eyes. I’m not too picky on how I go from there, but I know I’d like to at least see Portland, then drive down the Pacific coast to see San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Coming back, I’d take the southern route, stopping by the Grand Canyon and taking three months to drive through Texas… because I’m told by Texans that it is that big.

In reality, I think that sort of round trip would take a full three weeks at best. And that’s if I didn’t want to take my time and stop to see the world’s biggest ball of twine. I’m not sure how I would feel about taking that kind of trip by myself. However, as an introvert, I’m not sure who I would want to spend an entire three weeks with me without a break. One or both of us would likely lose our minds and wind up hating each other before the end.

Then there’s the cost. Have you seen gas prices lately?

So… yeah… this may have to be a bucket list item that just stays on the bucket list as one of those fantasy deals. Like inventing time travel.

  1. When I was younger we did a road trip through the northern states from Ontario to Utah and saw a bunch of amazing things! I can’t really remember it now, I was grade 7ish at the time? 12 years old maybe? But I DO remember mouth rushmore and not leaving the car at the grand canyon “I CAN SEE IT FINE FROM HERE THANK YOU” as I tightened my seat belt hahahaha
