I remember a few months ago there was this trend on Twitter where various hashtags got going where people asked questions like, “What Star Wars scenes live rent free in your head?” or “What MCU moments live rent free in your head?”

I’m not sure where the idea of something living rent free in our heads came from, but I thought that kind of thing would make a decent blog post at some point. And here we are. Because Netflix has yet to deliver the disc I need to watch the next movie on my list of the best movies I’ve never seen. Hopefully next week, huh?

To clarify, these Marvel moments are specifically from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not the comics. I’ve read approximately 20 Marvel comics and most of those were crossovers with DC, back when comic book companies used to do that sort of thing.

Oh, and it should go without saying that if you aren’t 100% familiar with everything that’s happened in the last 13 years of Marvel cinematic history, there will be spoilers ahead.

10. Avengers Assemble – The Avengers
It isn’t said, but it’s certainly done. You know, it’s that iconic scene during the battle against Loki’s alien army where each of the Avengers circle up and the camera pans around them. Got to have that epic shot. Otherwise, how do you prove that all these heroes teamed up in the first place?

9. “Why is Gamora?!” – Avengers: Infinity War
The Guardians of the Galaxy catch up with Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange on Thanos’ homeworld of Titan. But these two sets of good guys just assume that the other is working for Thanos. Star-Lord’s one track mind is focused solely on finding the woman he loves, Gamora, and the exchange is priceless.

8. “Piss off, ghost!” – Thor: Ragnarok
Korg is definitely my favorite minor character in the MCU. He’s basically a living pile of rocks that is introduced when Thor finds himself a gladiatorial slave on Sakaar. While in the holding area, Thor is visited by a projection of Loki. Thor, knowing that Loki wouldn’t lower himself to visit physically keeps throwing objects through his adopted brother. Just as Loki vanishes, Korg runs up to give Loki a piece of his mind.

7. “You should’ve gone for the head!” – Avengers: Infinity War
Just when it looks like the good guys might get a last minute win, they lose. Thanos finally has all six of the Infinity Stones and has completed his Infinity Gauntlet. All that’s left is for him to snap his fingers to eliminate half of all life in the universe. But Thor appears from out of the sky, throwing his new battle axe, Stormbreaker. The axe hits Thanos squarely in the chest… but it isn’t a killing blow. Thanos struggles, but gives Thor the advice that he’ll put to good use later, just before snapping his fingers and vanishing through a portal.

6. “I am Iron Man.” – Iron Man
Tony Stark certainly isn’t one to shy away from the spotlight. In spite of having a cover story provided by SHIELD, he decides to announce to the world that he is the armored super hero, Iron Man. And a cinematic universe is born.

5. “I am Iron Man.” – Avengers: Endgame
I said there would be spoilers if you haven’t stayed caught up with the MCU and here’s one of the pretty big ones. Just when it looks like the good guys might lose again at the hands of Thanos, Tony Stark makes one final play to strip the Mad Titan of his Infinity Stones. Tony succeeds and is able to incorporate the stones into his own armor, harnessing the power needed to eliminate Thanos and his army from the universe.

4. Spider-Man steals Captain America’s shield – Captain America: Civil War
What a way to introduce a new Spider-Man to the world and to introduce Spider-Man to the MCU for the first time. Tony confronts Steve at the airport and when the captain is less than cooperative, he calls in the new kid. Peter Parker leaps into action, grabbing Cap’s iconic shield and webbing his hands together.

3. Vision is worthy – Avengers: Age of Ultron
In another of what seem like dozens of moments throughout the history of the MCU, our heroes are pitted against each other because, once again, Tony has acted impulsively and decided to finish bringing to life Ultron’s intended body, but with JARVIS’ artificial intelligence added into the mix. Before a fight can really break out, Thor returns and calls down the lightning, bringing the Vision to life. No one can be certain if this Vision can be trusted. Until he picks up Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. If he’s worthy to pick up the hammer, he must be one of the good guys.

2. Cap is worthy – Avengers: Endgame
This is the moment when the entire theater erupted in cheers. Captain America is finally revealed to be worthy to wield the legendary hammer Mjolnir. The seed was planted way back in Age of Ultron when all of the Avengers took turns attempting to lift Thor’s hammer. No one could budge it… except for Steve. It budged… but Thor was the only one who noticed. And he was just as psyched as the audience when he saw Captain America holding his hammer as the battle against Thanos ramped back up.

1. “Avengers assemble!” – Avengers: Endgame
They teased it at the end of Age of Ultron, but Captain America never said the iconic line until everyone who was willing to fight the good fight joined him on the battlefield. It’s time to take down Thanos and his army and the Avengers have plenty of back up this time.

Honorable Mentions…
– “I love you 3,000.” I mean, how adorable is it when Tony’s daughter says that to him as he tells her good night?
– “On your left.” For all Steve knows, he’s the last man standing against Thanos and his entire army. Then he hears a familiar voice in his ear.
– “I’ve come to bargain.” When Doctor Strange takes it upon himself to face down the dark entity Dormammu, he tricks him with a handy little time loop.
– “I meant trash panda.” Rocket hates being referred to as a racoon. So when Star-Lord calls him a racoon once again, he apologizes and says he meant to refer to him as a trash panda. Rocket is confused, unsure if that’s better. Then Peter laughs and says it’s so much worse.

Okay, I realize a lot of them were from Endgame. Really, that last half hour from Endgame is just epic. But those are my MCU moments… What are yours? Let me know down in the comments!
