Question of the Week #253

What do you feel more often: gratitude or envy? What are you most grateful for?

Gratitude, for sure. I won’t say that I never feel envious of others, but I’m confident that it’s rare that I experience that particular feeling. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no point in being envious of other people. It’s not like there’s anything I can do about that guy getting a PlayStation 5 the day it was released while I wait until I’m in a more appropriate financial situation to purchase one of my own.

What am I most grateful for? Every day. I know I don’t necessarily act like it all the time. And I’m certain that people around me will not always see it, based on my attitude, particularly if it’s a day when I’m forced to get behind the wheel of my car and deal with other drivers on the road. But I am truly grateful for each day that I wake up.

I know this year has been incredibly difficult for a lot of people in this world. For me… well… it’s been less than difficult. All that time that we were required to stay at home as much as possible? I thrived on that. I hate what COVID has done to our world and our society in general, I really do. But its indirect effect on my life has been all right.

Please don’t read that as me calling coronavirus some kind blessing. I don’t. And I certainly don’t want to diminish the negative impact that the disease has had on the majority of our world.

But what about you? Are you more likely to feel gratitude or envy? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Gratitude, although I will admit a touch of envy creeps in once in a while. I think it does for everyone if they are honest. I have similar experience with the restrictions of the virus. I have been working from home for the last 19 years so that hasn’t changed anything and I’m an introvert so I don’t exactly miss big gatherings. I do miss going to concerts and baseball games but we are heading into the winter season so even those would have been infrequent at this point. Crossing fingers that we can get this thing under control though because I know it is affecting others on a much higher level.
