Question of the Week #246

Would you completely rewrite your child’s college application essays if it would help them get into a better school?

Have we learned nothing from the Ballad of Aunt Becky? No… I would not rewrite my kid’s college application essays to try and get them into a better school.

First of all, what if my brilliant writing got them into a school like Harvard or Yale. I don’t need my kid going to a better school than I went to and then holding that over my head for the rest of my life. Secondly, if my brilliant essay gets them into a better school, who’s to say they could handle that level of difficulty?

Besides, I’m not a famous actor. So if I get caught cheating my kid’s way into college, I’m going to prison. It won’t be like Lori Loughlin getting a slap wrist or an ankle bracelet that keeps her in her home for six months. Like we weren’t all doing that for the last six months anyway.

But what about you? Would you try to pull this kind of stunt? Let me know what you think down in the comments!

  1. I got married when I was 17 and still in high school. I now have 7 adult children. Technically you become an adult for “most” things..at the age of 18. You can drive, vote, join the military, rent your own home, buy your own car and sign legal documents. I don’t understand why adults can’t get themselves into college if they feel the need to go. Can someone please explain why financial aid paperwork still insists on having parents (even POOR or Divorced parents) income info.
