500

I just want to take this moment to say thank you.

As of yesterday, I now have 500 followers here on the WordPress. Honestly, I don’t know what would possess that many people to click follow on my little corner of the internet, but I am super appreciative.

I never guarantee that my posts are entertaining or enlightening or even particularly engaging. But if something I’ve written at some point in the last 3.5 years has made an impact on any of these 500 followers, then it’s definitely not for nothing.

I actually started keeping a blog way back in 2005. But that was a blog that was hosted by a different site. I wrote consistently on that blog for ten years. And, at best, I received 63 followers. I never would have dreamed that 500 people would someday follow my posts.

I’m not naive enough to believe that all 500 of you read every single post that goes up on The Confusing Middle. Maybe you don’t like my Buffy the Vampire Slayer posts. Maybe we have different movie tastes. Maybe you don’t really like to be asked deep and thought provoking questions every Saturday. But I do hope that there’s still something you like every now and then. Because something inspired you to click follow at some point in the last 3.5 years, and whatever that was, I hope it’s something that you’re seeing again at some point.

So grab a sparkler. Light it up. But don’t burn yourself. I think I heard recently that overly cautious parent groups are saying that kids shouldn’t play with sparklers anymore because they could get hurt. I played with sparklers as a kid and I turned out just fine. We can’t cover the world in bubble wrap, people!

Thank you for following. Thank you for liking. Thank you for commenting. If it’s okay with you guys, I’m gonna just keep on doing this for a while.
