Question of the Week #58

A good friend pulls off a well-conceived practical joke that plays on one of your foibles and makes you look ridiculous. How would you react?

I’d like to say I’d laugh it off. I mean, I love a good practical joke… as long as it’s played on someone else. I’d probably get pissed. I’d get over it, and it probably wouldn’t take long. Eventually I’d look back and laugh at it. But I think it’s safe to say that I’m one of those guys who can dish it out but can’t take it.

  1. Hmm… the question states a “good friend,” which any truly good friend of mine would know how a particular prank would end up. If it’s a prank done privately and amongst only my close friends, I’d probably be frustrated and a bit mad at first, but would likely find the humor in and appreciation for it later. However, if done in public, that would be another story, and their honestly might not be much of a friendship left afterwards.

A lot of this is contingent upon whether or not my trust was broken by this prank though, which goes back to the friend knowing me well. If I confide in someone and they play on that/break that trust, we are done.

  2. It all depends on what the intention was behind the prank. If it was just a joke, then I might be a little mad, but would probably laugh it off. If it was something that was deliberately meant to make me look stupid and humiliate me then I would be really angry.
