10 Things I Want for My Birthday

I guess I don’t need to explain what this post will be about. The title is fairly self explanatory. But, if you haven’t been able to surmise from my most recent Question of the Week or yesterday’s ranking of previous birthday parties, my birthday is this Sunday. And while there have been some friends who have asked about birthday gifts, I’m at that age where I know I should not simply expect presents from anyone. I don’t even get a check for $5.00 from my grandmother anymore. But, if one were so inclined, one could simply look to this list to see what it is that I want for my birthday…

Socks

10 Things I Want for My Birthday - DumbledoreTo quote the late, great Albus Dumbledore, “One can never have enough socks.”

Pizza

Pandemic - PizzaBecause duh.

A New TV

10 Things I Want for My Birthday - Homer Simpson TVLook, I really don’t need a new TV. But the one I’ve got is the one I’ve had since 2008. The Samsung (who shall henceforth be known as Samantha) has been a good television and displayed sharp images in her day. But at this late stage in her life, she’s struggling. There is a darkish shadow that resides just to the right of center extending from the bottom to the top of the screen. It doesn’t make my stories unwatchable, but a newer television would certainly make the viewing of things more enjoyable.

A New Computer

10 Things I Want for My Birthday - Penny ComputerThis is another thing I don’t necessarily need at this particular moment. But I know the time is coming. Things on my four year old laptop aren’t running as smoothly as they once did. And, when I open it up from the closed position, it doesn’t quite feel right. Almost like there’s something wrong with the hinges. That can’t be a good sign.

A New Presidential Candidate

10 Things I Want for My Birthday - Trump.gifI’m not gonna say I think we deserve better in our potential political options. This is America and we, as a society, are likely getting exactly what we deserve. But, as it’s looking more and more likely that our choices come November will be between a dishonest war criminal and an extreme narcissist with zero tact, my hope is that we could somehow do a little better. There are over 150 million natural born US citizens over the age of 35 out there who are eligible to run for president. Are we sure that not one of them is better than what we’re seeing?

Snow

Scenes from a Nativity - SnowPreferably by this Friday. I know there’s snow in the forecast, but I’d sure love to have a three day weekend for my birthday.

A New Job

Gimme a Break - Office SpaceIt’s not that I don’t like my current job. It’s just that the commute is wearing thin. Something a little closer to home would be super.

Tickets and a Trip to See the Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice Premiere

10 Things I Want for My Birthday - Batman v SupermanSpeaking of super… This is a long shot, I know. But how cool would it be to attend the world premiere of what promises to be an epic movie going experience?

A Third Season for Young Justice

10 Things I Want for My Birthday - Young JusticeAnd while we’re being comic book geeky, I’d like to see this animated series make a comeback. It was a great show. Don’t let the fact that it aired on the Cartoon Network deter you. That it was unceremoniously canceled with no explanation is a crime against humanity. There has recently been a rumor that Netflix could pick the show up for additional seasons. Let’s make that happen.

A Vacation

10 Things I Want for My Birthday - City Slickers VacationY’all, I haven’t been on a real vacation in nearly eight years. That’s a long time. I’m just… so tired. So much of the time. I just want to go somewhere for a week… maybe two… Somewhere where I don’t have to think about things. Somewhere where I can actually relax without a care in the world. I know it’ll all be waiting for me when I get back. But for that stretch of time, I just want to float around in nothingness.
