Where I Live
I live in Blacksburg, Virginia. I don’t care who knows it. In fact, I encourage you to stop by sometime. We can grab some dinner at the Rivermill (which is home to the greatest tater tots on the planet) or take in the natural beauty of one of the many local hiking trails. Seriously, y’all, Blacksburg is awesome. And the chamber of commerce isn’t even paying me to say that. But I’m thinking they should. No one likes to give away free advertisement, not even a generous guy like me.
Anyway, Blacksburg is a smallish town in Montgomery County. It’s about 45 minutes away from the smallish city of Roanoke, which you probably heard of recently because the mayor there made some pretty offensive statements regarding the welcoming of Syrian refugees. I won’t get into all that, but Roanoke made international news because of it. I’m just trying to jog your memory.
You may have actually heard of Blacksburg, too. Not only is it home to the world famous Aaron Peck, writer and caretaker of The Confusing Middle, this very blog that you’re reading, but it’s also home to Virginia Tech. It’s the largest university in the Commonwealth of Virginia. So, yeah, Blacksburg is kind of a big deal.
I won’t give out my address. I’ve got too many trust issues and too many enemies to just publish the location of my bedroom on the internet for all the world to see. Plus, I don’t think my roommate would appreciate having that information out there either. Though, I’m sure with the proper skills, one could easily find that kind of thing out. I’m just not going to make it easy for you. Anyway, I live in a duplex that’s a decent distance away from downtown Blacksburg and, by proxy, away from Tech’s campus. Not that I wouldn’t like living downtown. I think it would be awesome to be that close to that many restaurants. But the rent is crazy in Blacksburg until you start getting out toward the places where you can see the stars on a clear night.
So, yeah… that’s where I live. You should give me a call whenever you’re in town. We’ll throw darts. I’ll introduce you to some cool kids. It’ll be fun.
