Nostalgia Jams

Every decade has its treasure trove of nostalgia jams, those songs that instantly zap you back in time. But for me, ‘80s music just hits different. I mean, they were really rockin’ the neon, big hair, spandex scene. One riff of those synthesizer-heavy tunes and suddenly I feel totally radical, dude!

I can’t hear “Don’t Stop Believin’” without drifting back to belting it at the top of my 7-year-old lungs into my Smurfs microphone. Journey really brought the melodramatic angst with that one. Although, back then I just thought the lyrics were some mysterious grownup nonsense about livin’ in south Detroit or something.

Then there’s “Sweet Child o’ Mine.” Now that axe intro will forever take me to shredding air guitar in front of the TV, rockin’ my husky jeans as if I was Slash himself. It was a pretty beautiful, but naive time before I learned just how uncool I really was.

And let’s not even get started on “Africa” by Toto. Those opening piano riffs instantly put me right back on the elementary school playground with all the kids out playing freeze tag and Red Rover until someone’s arm was yanked out of socket. And we all know Dads everywhere were legally required to embarrassingly bust out those bongos for the chorus. Ah, sweet nostalgia.

Alright, I’m looking for some neon leg warmers and waiting for your most tubular ‘80s tunes to come rolling in down below! Don’t be bogus, leave a comment and keep this tubular trip down memory lane spinin’!
