Yesterday’s post may have come off a little harsh. I didn’t mean for it to… I mean, if it did come off as harsh. I haven’t heard any negative feedback from family. So that either means no one in my family has read yesterday’s post or they’ve read it and no one cares what I had to say in the first place.
But looking back, it kind of feels like I was just complaining about food instead of enjoying it. Well, other than singing the praises of my grandmother’s macaroni and cheese, that is.
So I thought I’d devote today’s post to some of the foods I genuinely look forward to each holiday season…
Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes
I mean, this should go without explanation. In fact… I’m not sure why any of my choices should have explanations. Other than the personal need to fill some kind of unspoken word quota for a blog post. I have yet to meet a single person in this world who doesn’t love a Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake. I’d swear they used to be bigger than they are these days.
Kroger Holiday Sugar Cookies
These may not specifically be a Kroger brand item, but Kroger is the only store I can find them. And I don’t necessarily find them every year. Problem is, they put them in odd places around the store and it’s never in the same place two years in a row. They aren’t with the rest of the cookies in the cookie aisle. They aren’t with the special holiday items in the seasonal aisle. No… they’re usually found on an endcap somewhere in the grocery store. It’s like playing Supermarket Sweep. Except you’re not being timed and it’s a lot more annoying. If you happen to find a box that looks like this, please let me know. I haven’t found them yet and we’re only a couple weeks away from Christmas. Though, if I can find them after Christmas, they’ll be marked down to 35 cents a box.
Chicken & Dumplings
This isn’t necessarily the kind of thing that is required for a Christmas. But it’s perfect for winter. I make it in the slow cooker… 6 hours of anticipation followed by about 10 minutes of devouring a steaming bowl. This could also apply to something like a decent loaded potato soup. I just need to find a good recipe for that one. Haven’t quite nailed one down that I really love.
Pumpkin Pie
What are the holidays without a pumpkin pie?
Sausage Balls
This might be more of a nostalgia thing than anything else. It always felt like a special occasion when Dad made these. And he’d just about always make them for Christmas morning. I’ve made them in the past, but it’s been several years. I think I’ll make them this year for Christmas. It’s not like they’re hard to make… Sausage, Bisquick, shredded cheese… so freakin’ easy.
What foods do you look forward to over the holidays? Any favorites that come to mind? Is it the kind of food you make for yourself? For others? Or is it something that someone special makes for you?

Those all sound good minus the Sausage Balls. I am Flexitarian.

We have a Christmas day eating tradition (at least we did before my brother got involved with his wife) which involves a lightiah breakfast, a shrimp ring and Asian appetizers for lunch, and then the full turkey dinner. I usually took care of breakfast and lunch, organizing and buying and preparing. But in the last few years my brother and I alternated that. My parents bought and dad cooks dinner.
I might not make any friends by saying this but I hate pumpkin pie, or apple LOL my family knows to have either pecan or strawberry rhubarb on stand by for me haha

I’ve never had a Little Debbie Christmas Tree. Are they like the Zebra Cakes?
