Welcome back to Bloganuary, the daily encouragement from WordPress for bloggers to post something each day. If you want to participate in Bloganuary, just click here! Today’s prompt asks: What is a life lesson you feel everyone can benefit from learning?
“Life is pain. Anyone who says different is selling something.”
Yes, it’s a quote from The Princess Bride but I think it’s applicable to real life. Incredibly applicable.
I’m not saying that every moment of every day of our lives are painful or are meant to be painful. But pain is reality. Pain is what helps us to know we’re really alive. Pain is a warning that something is wrong. Pain is inevitable.
There’s no such thing as happily ever after. There are happy moments that can sometimes be stretched out, but happiness is fleeting. It’s circumstantial. And, often, we can control how happy we are feeling… we can choose to look on the bright side and find happiness in the darkest of places. Not always… but often.
Pain… it’s not something we can always control. In fact, it could be argued that pain can rarely be controlled. It occurs without announcing its coming. We take a bad step, we hurt. We sleep in a different position, we hurt. We say goodbye to a loved one, we hurt. It isn’t something we choose to experience, but we experience it nonetheless.
