Bloganuary the Third

Welcome back to Bloganuary! This is the part of the blog where WordPress has encouraged bloggers to post something every day. So every day they give out a prompt. Today, we are prompted with: Write about the last time you left your comfort zone.

Ugh… seriously? When am I not out of my comfort zone? My entire career consists of being outside of my comfort zone. Which really means I need to rethink my career path.

And, trust me, I have been… to no avail.

Every day sees me meeting with difficult individuals with difficult problems and difficult personalities and most of them couldn’t care less that I’m trying to help them learn independent living skills that could potentially help them make their lives a little better than they are because most of the time they just want me to do stuff for them rather than teach them how to do for themselves. I know that was a run-on sentence but I am beyond caring.

Honestly, I have a hard time enjoying being around people under the best of circumstances. I generally just think people are the worst. There are a chosen few that I enjoy being with, but even they are aware that, because of my own personality flaws, that time is fleeting. The clients I work with? They do not make the list of the chosen few. I know they say you don’t get into the mental health services field for the money (and you really don’t). But believe me when I say there is no way I’d be doing this crap for volunteer hours.

My comfort zone involves my couch, a bowl of Frosted Flakes, and Back to the Future. Everything else is outside of the zone. Any questions?

Now that you’re done with that, might I encourage you to head over to my friend Paul’s blog at The Captain’s Speech? See, every year he hosts this “Share Your Blog” event, giving us all a chance to share our links with others so that we, in turn, can find new blogs to read and follow. Great idea, right? You know it is. Seriously, click over there, share your own link and maybe gain a few new followers.

  1. I love this. And I hate people lol! I suppose hate is a really strong word but, you get me. Isn’t it insane how we can split our personalities in half and absolutely fake the funk sometimes, for the sake of a career? I’m not saying this is what YOU are doing, but, I also don’t generally LIKE dealing with people despite loving my job, which involves constantly dealing with people. LOL OH MY GOD I even lost myself there!

I also Love this BLOGANUARY thing! I wanna play! Lol

    • That is absolutely what I am doing. I am putting on a fake attitude every time I work with any of my clients… some more than others. I am the nicest person in the world when they’re in my car (unless they need to hear a hard truth, then I don’t care if they don’t like me). But as soon as they’re gone, I don’t mind screaming into my steering wheel what I really think of them.
