Welcome to the 2021 A to Z Challenge! My theme this year is DC Comics. And that’s mostly because of my undying affection for the comic book characters and stories that I grew up reading in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. So stay tuned all month to (maybe) learn a little something about 26 corners of the DC Multiverse.

The only J characters I can think of in the DC Universe are Joker, who is the most obvious, and Jade, who is less obvious. Everyone knows who the former is… so let’s go with the latter.

Come to think of it… Jade may not exist anymore since the 2011 New 52 reboot. Not sure if that status has ever changed again, but she disappeared when Alan Scott was no longer the Golden Age Green Lantern in the main DC continuity.

But why would it matter if Alan Scott was around anymore? Because Alan Scott was her father.

Jade and her twin brother, Obsidian, were the children of the original Green Lantern. I’m not sure how that explains Obsidian’s powers, but Jade’s powers are kind of easy to figure out based on her father.

Jade is basically a Green Lantern but without the fancy jewelry. And by that, I mean she doesn’t need a power ring to focus her powers.

For a time, Jade lost her powers. But since she was dating Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, he was able to provide her with a power ring when he temporarily left Earth to try and restart the Green Lantern Corps.

I’m sorry to say this, but that’s about the extent of my knowledge of this character. I don’t even know her civilian name. I’m not sure that she even had a civilian life, since she couldn’t exactly hide her green skin.
