This week, our Sunday Scribblings prompt is Dance. If you decide to write a post based on this week’s prompt, be sure to go back here and share your link so everyone can see how you interpreted things! Here’s what I did with it…

I’m not a dancer. Never have been.

I’ve been to a few dances in my day, but they’ve been very few. I went to one homecoming dance during high school. I skipped all the others, including both proms for which I’d have been eligible.

Bluefield College put on a number of dances each year with homecomings and spring formals and usually one or two others thrown in for good measure. I usually attended those dances out of obligation rather than pure desire.

And then there have been weddings. Most, if not all, wedding receptions that I’ve attended involved some form of dancing.

I’ll admit, I have been known to sway to a slow tune from time to time. If there’s a quick tempo, don’t expect me to step onto the dance floor. I’m one of those guys that doesn’t have the greatest sense of rhythm. I mean… I do have rhythm. I can keep the beat when playing an instrument or singing. But I sure can’t clap and sing at the same time. It’s not good. So that translates to pretty bad dancing for the most part.

Maybe I’m better at it than I think. But I’m only going to dance like no one is watching when I’m certain that no one is watching.

Thanks to everyone who participated this week and shared your links! Please visit their blogs, give them a follow, and take a look at how they interpreted the prompt.

Be sure to come back on Wednesday for the next Sunday Scribblings prompt! Encourage other bloggers to challenge themselves with the prompt! Remember that there are no rules for what you write, other than responding to the prompt! You can write fiction, non-fiction, poetry, prose, biography, instruction… it’s all up to you!

  1. Oooo man! I have horrible rhythm!! The term “white girl dancing” definitely applies to me! LOL when I was living in Korea the first time, one of my fellow teachers had an app on his phone where you listen to music and play drums along with it. I could not do it. Like it was horrifying and laughable!

  2. I love to dance but hubby has to have the “right” song in order to be persuaded to get on the dance floor. Once I wanted to dance so much he sat in a chair and held my hand while I danced around him. Yes, there was alcohol involved. LOL.
