Here we are… another one of those days where things just didn’t go as planned. Sorry…

My plan was to write some more Friday Fiction since Mastermixmovies was kind enough to add another writing challenge last week. Unfortunately, as you can see, that’s not happening today. I promise, I’ll get to it next week.

Today, I wound up spending a lot of my day away from home. Weird, right?

I had to run some errands this morning and, since I was out, I decided to meet my mom and grandmother for lunch, which was nice.

Part of why I didn’t want to come back home in the meantime was because I was scheduled to give blood this afternoon at 3:30. I knew that if I came home and got even a little bit comfortable, I wouldn’t want to follow through with my commitment to donate.

Not that I’m not committed to donating blood. I just know how easy it is for me to start to relax and decide I don’t want to put my shoes back on.

That said, I did want to take this time to once again plead with anyone seeing this who is healthy and capable: give blood. Just a few minutes of your time can go such a long way in helping to save lives.

Honestly, I really was planning to sit down and write a story based on the latest challenge once I got home, but they had a hard time finding a vein. No… that wasn’t the problem.

They found two veins. The first one they stuck started strong for approximately one second… then it stopped flowing. Not sure what happened there. The other vein was a little easier to work with, but the technician had to literally hold my arm and the needle in place to make sure that it would continue flowing.

I don’t know what the deal with my veins was today. It’s usually not a chore like that.

Please, don’t let that short tale of uncertainty deter you from going to the Red Cross website and making an appointment to donate a pint yourself. It’s really not that bad. They take your temperature, ask your name a couple dozen times, you feel the needle go in and then the pain is over. Suddenly you’ve saved lives.
