Question of the Week #198

If you could pass your whole life cared for in every way as you slumbered peacefully, entranced by wonderful dreams, would you do so?

Absolutely not. In fact, as much as I enjoy sleep, if I were given the opportunity to not spend a third of my life in sleep, I would. And by saying that, I mean, if there were some way to ensure that I didn’t need sleep to function, I’d absolutely go with that. Think of all the stuff we’d get accomplished if sleep wasn’t necessary!

But sleep is necessary. And I do enjoy sleep. I mean… I don’t know I’m enjoying it while I’m doing it because I’m obviously not conscious to be aware of my enjoyment. But I definitely enjoy the part where I wake up too early and realize I’ve got a couple more hours before I have to get up and I can lie back down and close my eyes again. That feels real good.

Enjoying the sleep I get does not mean I want to do nothing but sleep my life away. I don’t care how good the dreams are. Besides, if memory serves, they basically made a movie trilogy about how this is a bad idea. Little franchise called The Matrix. You should look it up.

But what would you do? Would you be willing to remain asleep 24/7 as long as someone took care of all your physical needs while you have constant awesome dreams? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. What’s the point of being alive if you’re just sleeping? Like I get if for people in comas and stuff but their bodies are healing so it’s needed, but to make the choice to be asleep instead of awake? No way Jose. But I do LOVE to sleep lol like if there was a way to ensure I was well rested every single night after 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep that would be my dream goal. Like sure put me out but only from 10-6 every night and then let me wake up rested and energized lol
