Rewatching Angel – Episode 39

Angel - TitleWelcome to Rewatching Angel, the part of the blog where I rewatch the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off: Angel. Each Tuesday evening, you’re invited to join me as I attempt to rediscover what made me love these shows so many years ago.

Disharmony

  • Where Team Angel is concerned, Angel is now at the bottom of the totem pole.
  • He is no longer the boss. He’s basically an intern. Except I think interns get more respect.
  • In a romantic corner of LA, a young couple are making out in their car.
  • But that’s interrupted when they’re attacked by a couple of mysterious hooded characters.
  • Back at the hotel, Angel attempts to rebuild bridges with Cordelia.
  • She plays along, but is quick to let him know that the two of them are not friends.
  • Then she has a vision about the colorfully hooded attackers, leading the gang to a building with a gigantic bird statue.
  • The guys take off and Cordelia closes up shop.
  • As she’s leaving, Harmony shows up.
  • They play catch up, as old high school friends do.
  • Cordelia asks her if she has a place to stay, so Harmony asks if she’s offering.
  • “Do I have to say it?” Yeah, Cordy, you do. She’s a vampire and has to be invited.
  • The guys find one of the robed guys and discover it’s a vampire. Angel stakes him right and proper.
  • Back at Cordelia’s, they’re having a swell time until Harmony complains about feeling hungry. So Cordy orders a pizza.
  • Uh… I don’t think that’s gonna hit the spot.
  • That night, Harmony sneaks into Cordelia’s bedroom and watches her sleep.
  • It’s all very Twilight.
  • When Cordelia wakes up, Harmony apologizes. She thought she could control her urges.
  • Cordelia assumes she’s a lesbian…
  • The next morning, Cordelia is on the phone with Willow wanting to know why no one let her know about Harmony’s new sexual orientation.
  • It gets awkward when Willow (off-camera) clearly reveals her own orientation over the phone.
  • Willow then calls Angel to warn him that Harmony is at Cordelia’s.
  • So they rush over and bust down the door to save her.
  • But Cordelia trusts Harmony, so it seems to be fine.
  • Cordelia is needed at the office, but Harmony doesn’t want to be left alone with the ghost.
  • The team figures out that these robed vampires are building an army of some kind.
  • Meanwhile, we discover that these robed vampires are part of a cult led by an undead motivational speaker.
  • It’s an evil pyramid scheme… Is that redundant?
  • Anyway, the idea is that each member goes out, turns two people into vampires and brings one person back to be added to their “food bank.”
  • When Harmony spills her mug o’ blood on the computer while Cordelia starts to figure out who the vampire cult leader is, they decide to take her to Caritas to let the Host read her.
  • He tells her she’s already on her path and that Cordelia is her guide.
  • And so, when Cordelia has to go back to work, Harmony sticks to her like glue.
  • “I’m one of the good guys now!”
  • Yeah… right.
  • When they find the vampire cult’s base of operations. Angel pulls Cordelia aside to warn her that Harmony will betray her.
  • Cordelia throws it back in Angel’s face, because that’s basically what he did.
  • Then they need Harmony to sneak into the cult and pretend like she’s interested in joining up to help the rest of them get inside.
  • This is just the opportunity she needs to betray everyone!
  • Inside, she witnesses a cult member moving up to the next level, which then allows him to feed on a girl in the cage.
  • Harmony goes out and leads the gang inside.
  • And it’s a trap.
  • She didn’t pretend to join the cult. She actually joined the cult.
  • A fight breaks out. Most of the vampires scatter. Four are dusted.
  • Then Angel takes down the cult leader, Doug.
  • Doug, the vampire… Really strikes fear, doesn’t it?
  • Cordelia nearly dusts Harmony, but decides to let her go, warning her to get out of LA.
  • The next day, Angel figures out the best way to win back Cordelia’s affections is to replace the clothes he gave away to Anne’s shelter.
  • It works.
  • Body count: Vampires – 6; Humans – 1
