In the world of banking, the people on the front lines of the industry are known as tellers. These are the people who are expected to help customers with all of their day to day banking needs. It is often a thankless and miserable position to hold. These are their stories. These are their legends…
I’m not much of a talker. I never really have been. So when someone talks too much, it kind of grates on my nerves.
One day at the bank, a girl came in who had apparently been away for some time. That customer felt the need to tell a fellow teller all of the minute details of her life over the past year.
She had to have talked non-stop for a good fifteen minutes. And it seemed that each time she was about to wrap it up, she would go into another facet of what she had done with herself that year. It was like the end of the last Lord of the Rings movie. You just never knew when it was really going to end.
After a full half hour of talking, she finally left, claiming she’d be back in a few months. I’m sure she’d have loads more to talk about by then. At that point, I really wanted to turn around and fuss at my co-worker for encouraging that sort of behavior. Whatever happened to the good old days when people would just go to the bank, make their deposit, then get the heck out?
There should be a word limit for customers, and if they go over that limit, the bank charges them a fee. They charge customers for everything else. I think it makes sense.
**Don’t forget you still have time to head back to Friday’s post and ask me a question. I’ll be answering your questions starting this Friday. So far, there are some pretty good ones. Go on, challenge me.
So…your solution to someone talking too much is to go to a co-worker and talk about it?

Sure, I am now… As a bank teller, I was a different person. I forgot what patience looked like. I lost faith in humanity. Dark days…

Understandable! I could NEVER work any customer service job… not with my propensity to speak my mind and spout out profane strings of weird words lol!

If you’re going to set a maximum word count, it only seems fair to set a minimum, too.
