Three Things

I’ve got a few things on my mind and none of them fit together. So this isn’t going to be a neat and tidy little blog post with one coherent thought. No, there will be several coherent thoughts.

First things first… I quit the Whole30.

I know. I’m a quitter. How can I show my face around here? Well, I’m not. I mean, you can easily find my face out there on the internet. It’s not like I’m anonymous. I’m just not showing my face in this blog post.

Look, the thing is, I got really arrogant when I decided to do Whole30 this time around. I thought, I’ve done this before, this time will be no problem. Except it was a problem. While I was prepared for the foods I would be allowed to eat and even told myself I was prepared for the headache that would come with the caffeine withdrawals.

Turns out I was not prepared for that headache. It was debilitating. It was worse than I remember it being even the first time I successfully completed the Whole30. I was curled up in a ball all of Sunday afternoon and evening. I couldn’t sleep that night, it hurt so bad. I missed work Monday because of it.

When something interferes with my day-to-day, it can’t be good for me. So I quit.

Also, eating healthy is wicked expensive. It’s stupid how much money it costs to eat right. And I kind of remembered that the only meal I truly enjoyed eating during my last Whole30 stint was scrambled eggs and this approved chicken and apple sausage. Eggs are super cheap. I can definitely afford to eat those every day. But that sausage? On sale it’s $5.00 for a pack of four. That means that each sausage is $1.25. I feel like that gets to be a lot if I’m trying to eat that for the majority of my meals for 30 days.

No, thank you.

Try not to judge me too harshly for giving up so soon after I started.

In other news, yesterday was my birthday. You might have noticed after Paul’s surprise birthday party on his blog, The Captain’s Speech. Thanks for all the birthday wishes! It turned out to be a good day. I mean, it was mostly just a regular day, what with going to work and all. But my supervisor did make it worth my while by providing Chicken Minis from the Chick-Fil-A. Which I’d never have been able to enjoy if I’d still been on that ridiculous Whole30.

What else? Oh, yeah… I was reminded today, over at No Love for Fatties, that the A to Z Challenge is coming up next month. I didn’t know this even existed until recently.

The way I understand it, the challenge begins on April 1 and I’ll post something every day except Sunday. Each day corresponds with the next letter of the alphabet (1 – A, 2 – B, 3 – C, etc.). Picking a theme to be the common thread is optional, but I think it’ll be good to have something to stick to all month. I just don’t know what theme I want to use.

This is where you come in. Would you do me a huge favor and vote in the comments? Just pick a number: 1, 2, or 3. I don’t want to say what potential themes I’ve assigned to the numbers. That way it will still be a surprise when I finally reveal which one is the winning theme. Does that make any sense? I thought so.

Okay… I think that’s all for today. Have a wonderful evening. Remember to vote early and vote often!
