Question of the Week #410

From Gregory Stock’s The Book of QuestionsWhat was your most enjoyable dream? Your worst nightmare?

Hey there, fellow dreamers and nightmare navigators! Today, we’re diving deep into the realm of our subconscious to explore the most enjoyable dreams and the worst nightmares we’ve experienced. As a self-proclaimed expert on the subject (I mean, I do sleep every night), I’ll kick things off by sharing my own adventures in dreamland.

The Lunch Date of My Dreams

Picture this: I’m sitting in a quaint little café, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm croissants filling the air. Across from me, none other than the lovely Sarah Michelle Gellar. That’s right, the Buffy herself! We’re engaged in witty banter, discussing the intricacies of vampire slaying and the challenges of navigating Hollywood. It was a delightful dream, a perfect blend of charm and nostalgia.

Now, before you get too excited, let me clarify—it was just a lunch date. I’m sure our relationship would have never progressed beyond friendship. But hey, a guy can dream, right?

Nightmares? What Nightmares?

On the flip side, let’s talk about nightmares. Surprisingly, I’ve been somewhat of a nightmare-free zone since my childhood days. Sure, I’ve had the occasional unsettling dream—you know, the ones where you find yourself giving a presentation in your underwear or being chased by a horde of angry, sentient vegetables. But those don’t quite qualify as nightmares in my book.

I suppose I should count myself lucky. While others are battling terrifying dream demons or falling endlessly into dark abysses, I’m over here snoozing peacefully, dreaming of witty repartee with ’90s TV icons.

Your Turn to Share

But enough about me! I want to hear from you, dear readers. What’s the most enjoyable dream you’ve ever had? Was it a whimsical adventure in a fantastical world or a heartwarming reunion with a long-lost friend? And on the darker side, what’s the worst nightmare that’s ever jolted you awake in a cold sweat?

Don’t be shy—share your stories in the comments below! Let’s bond over our collective dream experiences, both the delightful and the downright disturbing. Who knows, maybe we’ll discover a common thread or two.

Until next time, keep dreaming (or not, if you prefer a nightmare-free existence like yours truly). Sweet dreams!

  1. Sentient vegetables are the worst.

Like you, I haven’t had true nightmares since I was a kid. My usual unsettling dreams involve me driving in strange cities and not knowing where I’m going, or—similar but slightly different—exploring cavernous buildings and being unable to find my way out. Occasionally work stress dreams. For me, that’s always retail management, even though I worked the last eight years at the post office.
