Rewatching Smallville – Episode 7

Welcome back to Rewatching Smallville, my weekly dive into the iconic series that explores Clark Kent’s journey before becoming Superman. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the show, you’re invited to join in each Tuesday as I revisit episodes and share my thoughts and observations. This week, we’re diving into the seventh episode of the series, and boy, is it a doozy. “Craving” introduces us to the bizarre world of meteor rock-induced weight loss, and trust me, it’s just as weird as it sounds.

The episode revolves around Jodi Melville (played by a pre-fame Amy Adams), a teenager struggling with her weight and her intense desire to fit in. After discovering that the meteor rocks in her greenhouse cause rapid weight loss, Jodi’s cravings spiral out of control, leading her to suck the fat out of unsuspecting victims. Talk about a new fad diet!

But “Craving” isn’t just about the dangers of crash dieting (and deer consumption). It also delves into the ongoing saga of Clark Kent’s journey to becoming Superman and Lex Luthor’s descent into villainy. We see Lex’s growing obsession with the meteor rocks and their potential effects on human health, setting the stage for his future experiments and nefarious deeds.

Speaking of Clark, our favorite farmboy-turned-superhero spends most of the episode pining after Lana (surprise, surprise) and accidentally standing her up at her birthday party. Smooth move, Clark. But don’t worry, he makes it up to her with a sweet drive-in movie date at the end, complete with Bugs Bunny cartoons and popcorn. Who says romance is dead?

Now, let’s talk about the real star of this episode: vehicular accidents. In a shocking turn of events, there’s only one car crash in “Craving,” and it’s not even caused by Clark! Jodi takes the wheel this time, hitting a deer in the pouring rain. But don’t worry, the deer doesn’t go to waste – Jodi promptly devours it in a scene that’s sure to make you rethink your love for venison.

All in all, “Craving” is a solid entry in the Smallville canon, introducing us to the wacky world of meteor rock-induced powers and reminding us that even Superman has his awkward teenage moments. Plus, it’s always a treat to see a future Hollywood star like Amy Adams gracing the screen.

What did you think of “Craving”? Did it satisfy your appetite for Smallville weirdness, or did it leave you feeling a bit hungry for more? Let us know in the comments below!
