Question of the Week #373

From Gregory Stock’s The Book of Questions: You, your closest friend, and your father are on vacation together, hiking near a remote lake. Your companions stumble upon a nest of poisonous snakes and are badly bitten. You know neither will live without an immediate, full dose of antivenom, yet you have only one dose. What would you do?

See, this is why I don’t go hiking!

Now, I love my father. But the man’s been deceased for nearly two decades. Pretty sure he can take one for the team here and let me use the antivenom on my still-living best friend. I know Dad would understand. He was always the selfless type, plus being dead already gives him an advantage in these situations.

As for me, I’d be sad to lose my friend so young. We’ve been through thick and thin together and that person deserves a long happy life ahead of her. So in this grim scenario, I’d have to apologize to ghost dad and stab my pal with the antivenom. Maybe say a few words in his memory at their wedding someday.

But enough about me – what would you do, readers? Let me know in the comments! Would you save your living friend or try to bring ghost dad back to life Weekend at Bernie‘s style with the antivenom? It’s possible my answer was a cop out, considering my real life situation. But reasonable people can disagree on matters of life and death. Just try not to judge each other too harshly! And maybe stick to hiking trails that aren’t filled with venomous serpents.
