Question of the Week #368

From Gregory Stock’s The Book of QuestionsYou’re raising money for a charity and someone agrees to make a large contribution if you perform alone in front of a thousand people at an upcoming fundraiser. Would you agree? If so, how big a donation, if any, would you require, and what sort of act would you perform?

You know me, I’m always down for a challenge! And it’s for a good cause. I’ve actually sung in front of big crowds before, so it wouldn’t be too far out of my comfort zone. Give me a mic and a decent song from the 1980s and I’ll belt it out, no problem.

I’d want the donation to be pretty sizable to make it worth the stress. Let’s say…$50,000? Yeah, 50k and I’ll channel my inner Billy Joel for a packed auditorium. A small price to pay for that kind of contribution.

Of course, I’d want to pick a song I know really well, and maybe do a quick run-through at a smaller event first to warm up. But I think it could be a fun experience. The audience would probably get a kick out of my enthusiastic and angelic vocals too!

What do you think? Would you take the deal? And what’s your number or act of choice? I want to hear your thoughts in the comments! Personally, I see it as a cool challenge to undertake for a great cause. But I know not everyone has the same comfort level being on stage. So let me know if you’d step up to the mic or politely decline. Looking forward to your responses!

  1. I’d do karaoke and happily make a fool of myself in front of a crowd for charity. I’d probably sing “House of Gold” by 21 Pilots which is one of my go to karaoke songs. 50k is more then enough to get me on stage.
