Not sure what happened to January… I really didn’t expect to go the entire month without blogging. Especially after feeling like I was making a pretty strong comeback in December after taking so much time off throughout the fall of last year.
Anyway…
It’s February already. I figure now’s as good a time as any to get back to this writing gig. Not sure if forcing myself will cause my motivation to follow, but here’s hoping.
Because I don’t just want motivation to write. I desperately want motivation to read. Do you have any idea how many books are on my TBR shelf right now? Neither do I because I’m not sure I can count that high!
I am currently reading Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. I picked this up at Barnes & Noble last summer because I was interested in reading a series (and there are eight books in this one) and because I really liked Maas’ work with Catwoman: Soulstealer, which I read some time ago.
I got a few chapters into Throne of Glass… then I let the book sit on my coffee table for the remainder of 2022. I didn’t even come close to completing my Goodreads goal for last year. It’s laughable how far from finishing I was. I’ve set another goal for this year, and so far I’m about on track to tie last year’s number.
The problem I keep running into is sleepiness. I will finally make time in my afternoon or evening to crack open that book and I will be three pages in before my head is slumped forward and I’m suddenly awakened by the sound of the book hitting the floor because it slipped out of my hand and fell out of my lap. Can’t tell you how many times this has happened.
So why am I so tired? I honestly don’t know… I feel like I sleep fairly well most nights. I guess my quality of sleep could be lacking… But I’m not sure I want to deal with the hassle of signing up for a sleep study to find out what I’m doing wrong.
In other news, I’m still loving my job. I’ve seen a few movies that were new to me last month…
- M3gan – Uh… Dolls kind of creep me out. So does artificial intelligence. And this basically checks both those boxes. Anyone else hoping for a M3gan vs. Chucky crossover? I’m thinking killer doll dance-off.
- A Man Called Otto – I was really looking forward to this one because I read the Frederick Backman book on which it’s based, A Man Called Ove, a few years ago. Back when I was actually reading and staying awake for more than a chapter or two. Even though I knew the outcome of every piece of that story, I was pretty much in tears the whole movie. Tom Hanks is fantastic as Otto. And the rest of the cast played off of him very well.
- The Menu – After missing this in the theater I caught it on HBO Max. It was, in a word, weird. Maybe I didn’t get the satire of the thing. But, yeah… kinda weird.
- The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker – This is a documentary on Netflix about a guy who went viral about 10 years ago. If you know, you know… It was an interesting watch and was incredible to think about how little research goes into the people we turn into overnight celebrities.
Guess I’ve been keeping up with a few TV shows, too… I was disappointed that Big Sky only got a half season this year, but it was still just as good as it’s been in previous seasons. Hopefully it gets picked up for a fourth in the fall. I’m looking forward to 1923 coming back from a brief hiatus. Same with Quantum Leap. I’m loving the crap out of The Last of Us. Having only played the first 20 minutes of the video game on which the series is based, I’m really enjoying a story that’s completely new to me. But that first 20 minutes… Again, if you know, you know.
I guess that’ll do for now… Been a long day and it’s time to heat up some pizza rolls. Peace out, kids.

I saw little blurbs of “A man called Otto” online and that’s a movie that I would like to watch.
