Because today is National Make Your Bed Day, our Sunday Scribblings prompt for this week is Bed. If you decide to write a post based on this week’s prompt, be sure to go back here and share your link so everyone can see how you interpreted things! Here’s what I did with it…
I know I don’t have the most comfortable bed in the world. But there are so many mornings when all I want to do is stay wrapped up in the comforter and lie there all day. I chalk that up to the depression that seems to never go away.
Even now, on a Sunday morning, as I type out these words for this blog post and think about the very few responsibilities that lay before me, I’m mostly thinking about how certain I am that I’ll wind up taking a nap at some point today. Maybe even a couple of times.
I rarely, if ever, make my bed. I know… they say that’s one small thing you should do so that you can start the day feeling like you’ve accomplished something. But… to me, I just think… What’s the point?
I live alone. No one ever visits me. That means I’m the only person that sees the mess that is my bedroom. Sure, I could make the bed in the morning so that it looks nice. But I’m just going to be sleeping in it again at the end of the day.
If I reach a point where my entire apartment is presentable again, sure… maybe I’ll start making my bed on a regular basis again. But I really don’t think I’ve done that since I was a kid.
Thanks to everyone who participated this week and shared your links! Please visit their blogs, give them a follow, and take a look at how they interpreted the prompt.
Be sure to come back on Wednesday for the next Sunday Scribblings prompt! Encourage other bloggers to challenge themselves with the prompt! Remember that there are no rules for what you write, other than responding to the prompt! You can write fiction, non-fiction, poetry, prose, biography, instruction… it’s all up to you!
Here’s the funny thing: as a child/teen I rarely made my bed. As a child my mom forced me to make my bed. But as a teen I rarely did it voluntarily. I called it a piece of living art because every day it changed. If we had guests over, I just closed the door to my room and the problem went away. Even now as an adult if I am at my parents, my bed is RARELY made up.
But in my own place? Its always made lol it started when I only lived in a bedroom. Its much nicer to be confined to a small space like that if the bed is made up. But now that I have a proper bedroom with a separate living space, I still make it. Its part of my routine. I like having it made up now. If I nap under the covers during the day (which I might do this afternoon) I dont bother remaking it though haha!!! But lately since its still summer and gross here, I will just bring a light blanket from the sofa and curl up under it instead of mussing the bed.
