Because today is National Haiku Poetry Day, our Sunday Scribblings prompt for this week is Haiku. If you decide to write a post based on this week’s prompt, be sure to go back here and share your link so everyone can see how you interpreted things! Here’s what I did with it…

I’ve never much been into poetry. I’m good with reading the poetry that others have written. But when it comes to writing my own poetry… It’s just not how my mind operates. Maybe that’s because I’ve never pushed myself or stretched that mental muscle. But haiku has always felt easy to me. I guess it’s because it’s the one form of poetry that I remember from elementary school. And I guess I easily remember it because the rules are simple.

Three lines. First line has five syllables. Second line has seven syllables. Third line has five syllables. Done.

Haiku poems are
easy when you know how to
follow all the rules.

Technically… that was a haiku. But it’s not exactly expressive. You know… as poetry tends to be.

Spring is beautiful
Flowers blooming, trees budding
Pollen ev’rywhere

And since it’s Easter…

The stone rolled away
Son of God resurrected
See the empty grave

Think I’ll stick to non-poetry from here on…
