Because today is National Open an Umbrella Indoors Day, our Sunday Scribblings prompt for this week is Umbrella. If you decide to write a post based on this week’s prompt, be sure to go back here and share your link so everyone can see how you interpreted things! Here’s what I did with it…
I currently own two umbrellas. Neither of them are very good.
One is small… compact… I keep that one in my car in case I get caught out in a sudden downpour. It doesn’t cover a lot but gets the job done when necessary.
The other is a bit larger. I typically keep it next to the door in my apartment. That way, if it’s raining as I’m leaving for the day, I can grab it and not get drenched walking to my car. While it’s bigger than the compact umbrella from the car, it’s really not any sturdier. I half expect either of those umbrellas to break whenever they’re in use.
I’m just waiting for a strong gust of wind to turn one of them inside out.
I’ve never had a really good umbrella. I assume that a good umbrella is going to be expensive. I’m talking about the enormous kind that you can actually hold over a couple of people at the same time. The kind the open and close at the push of a button so you don’t have to worry about the sliding mechanism pinching your finger when you try to release it. The kind that look and feel so strong that they could probably withstand hurricane force winds.
But even if I had a really good umbrella, I’m not sure I’d carry it around. I’m not a fan of carrying an umbrella. The one that’s supposed to be in my apartment? It’s in my car at the moment. I took it out on a rainy morning last week and, since it wasn’t raining when I got home for the day, I forgot about it and left it in the back floorboard.
I almost wish I could be a poncho kind of person. You know… the kind of person who chooses to wear a poncho to stay dry rather than carrying an umbrella. But any poncho I’ve ever worn is too hot. I get it, though. It’s made of material that doesn’t breathe because it has to be impervious to water. So it’s gonna get stuffy under there.
I guess, what I’m saying is… I just don’t like the rain.
