Bloganuary the Twentieth

Welcome back to Bloganuary, the daily encouragement from WordPress for bloggers to post something each day. If you want to participate in Bloganuary, just click here! Today’s prompt asks: What is your favorite photo you’ve ever taken?

Now this is a prompt.

I used to love photography. Really… I still do. It’s just not a hobby I make time for very much these days. I take so few pictures these days, it’s enough to raise the question why I even still have an Instagram account.

I took photography for two years in high school. I loved everything about it. I loved taking the pictures. I loved developing the film. I loved printing the photos. For a while, during college, I even had it in my head that I could put together my own dark room in the basement of my parents’ home. It worked for a short period of time when I had all the right equipment and chemicals to get the job done. But it can be an expensive hobby.

I even toyed with the idea of trying to go pro for a minute or two. And if I’d been more ambitious in those days, maybe I would have given it more of an effort. As it is, I made the switch to a digital camera which, I’m sorry, just doesn’t feel as fun as me as my old manual camera that had to be loaded with an actual roll of film.

But have you tried to get a roll of film developed these days? So expensive. And they have to send it off. And you might not get it back for a couple months.

Anyway, I’ve got several pictures that I’ve taken over the years that I absolutely loved. I’m not going to just share one… be prepared…

I took this about three months before 9/11.
These kids were taking a break from a soccer game we were playing in Brazil.
Duchess was my dog when I was in high school… I miss that dog.
Just a piece of the Lincoln Memorial.
My hometown, Roanoke, has a big night light up on a mountain.
