Rewatching Angel – Episode 67

Angel - TitleWelcome to Rewatching Angel, the part of the blog where I rewatch the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off: Angel. Each Tuesday evening, you’re invited to join me as I attempt to rediscover what made me love these shows so many years ago.

Deep Down

  • Before I start, I want to go on record saying that this is my least favorite season of this series.
  • My reasons will be revealed in time… just not in this post.
  • Everyone’s gathered around a big table for Thanksgiving dinner.
  • At least, that’s what it looks like.
  • Everyone’s happy.
  • Wes is there… Lorne’s there… Connor’s getting along with everyone…
  • Angel talks about how he wants to hold on to this moment.
  • But Angel starts to notice something’s wrong.
  • No one is passing him any food, despite the fact that he’s starving.
  • Reality sets in… he’s alone in a box at the bottom of the ocean.
  • Fred and Gunn are facing down some vampires, trying to find info on where Angel and/or Cordelia could be.
  • They aren’t very forthcoming, so a fight ensues and they take down three of them.
  • The fourth nearly kills Fred, but Connor steps in and saves her, killing the last vampire.
  • They can’t get hold of Lorne and they assume he’s lost the mission.
  • Angel relives his last surface moments at the beach.
  • Only this time, Cordelia shows up.
  • But flashes of how it really happened keep hitting him.
  • Cordelia tells Angel that she’s in love with him and has been for a long time and they begin to kiss.
  • Then Angel apologizes and feeds on her…
  • At the bottom of the ocean, he’s desperately starved.
  • Connor pretends that he’s desperate to find out what’s happened to his father.
  • He’s really interested in Fred and Gunn’s lead, Marissa, so he can go shut her up before she can tell anyone the truth about what happened to Angel.
  • Fred and Gunn argue about going to Wes for help, but Gunn is firmly against it.
  • Wes and Lilah are sleeping together.
  • Apparently their one time fling at the end of last season has become a regular thing.
  • Wesley tells her that he has no idea what happened to Angel or where he could possibly be… and he couldn’t care less.
  • Lilah feels like she’s finally making progress with Wes.
  • When she leaves, Wes gets up and unlocks a closet, revealing a very small cage and a chained up Justine.
  • “It’s time. Let’s go for a boat ride.”
  • They have a nice conversation, but no luck finding Angel.
  • Connor bursts into Marissa’s potential home.
  • At first it looks like she’s gone, but she reveals herself.
  • They start questioning her, but she manages to get away.
  • Connor goes after her, moving faster than Fred and Gunn can keep up.
  • He stakes her, then injures himself to make it look like he had no choice but to kill her.
  • Angel’s next delusion involves fighting side by side with Connor.
  • Lorne takes a call from Fred and apologizes for how busy he’s been.
  • He’s had no luck with his contacts in finding Angel or Cordelia.
  • At Wolfram & Hart, Gavin’s psychics claim that Angel is contained and out of play and, therefore, not their problem at the moment.
  • The psychics have also revealed to Gavin and Linwood that Lilah and Wes have been repeatedly intimate.
  • On the boat, Wes thinks he’s found something and sends Justine down to take a look.
  • Sure enough, it’s an Angel in the Box.
  • Wes cuts him out and Angel’s first move is to grab Wesley by the throat.
  • Fortunately, he’s not strong enough to actually do any damage and he passes out immediately.
  • Wes feeds him animal blood, noting that a vampire can exist indefinitely without feeding, but the damage to higher brain functions can be catastrophic.
  • Connor gets back to the hotel and starts to get into it with Gunn.
  • That kid has got a huge chip on his shoulder.
  • After Connor storms off, the phone starts to ring.
  • On the boat, Angel hallucinates that Lorne is there talking to him.
  • He hallucinates that Wes is Connor and says, “I should’ve killed you.”
  • Wes realizes he needs something more substantial than pig’s blood.
  • Justine thinks he’s gonna let Angel feed on her, but then he cuts his own arm with a knife and gives it to Angel.
  • In the conference room at Wolfram & Hart, Linwood is ready to lower the boom on Lilah.
  • Lilah questions Linwood’s lack of courage… she accuses him of being afraid of Connor and Angel.
  • This is why he has a “wait and see” policy involving both of them.
  • Lilah reveals that she’s been in touch with one of the Senior Partners, then she activates a device that beheads Linwood.
  • She’s in charge now.
  • Fred takes a snack up to Connor.
  • Then she reveals that she knows what he did to Angel, just before she hits him with the taser.
  • Connor wakes up downstairs, tied up.
  • He shows no remorse over what he’s done.
  • Wes leaves Justine and drives Angel back to the Hyperion.
  • He drops off Angel, then leaves.
  • While Fred and Gunn tend to Angel, Connor gets loose.
  • He quickly takes down Fred and Gunn, but Angel is there to block his escape.
  • He tells him to sit down.
  • Angel reveals the truth, that Justine killed Holtz with an ice pick, just to make Connor hate Angel a little more.
  • Angel asks Connor, “What do you deserve?”
  • Connor gets up and tries to make a run for it, but Angel throws him against the wall.
  • He wants to know what happened to Cordelia.
  • But Connor really had nothing to do with her disappearance.
  • Angel gives Connor a pretty outstanding speech about what it means to be a champion.
  • “We live as though the world were as it should be, to show it what it can be.”
  • He tells his son he loves him, then orders him to get out of his house.
  • Connor leaves and Angel collapses, telling the others they need to find Cordelia.
  • On a higher plain, a glowing Cordelia complains that she’s so bored.
  • Body count: Vampires – 5
