The other day, I was reminded by our friend over at No Love for Fatties that April is coming soon. She’s gearing up for the annual A to Z Challenge, which I thought sounded intriguing and, dare I say, challenging. I signed up for it earlier this month but was having a hard time coming up with a theme.
I know, having a theme isn’t mandatory. But I feel like that’s part of the challenge… to have a theme that I have to stick to, rather than just having random posts that just happen to fall in line with that day’s letter.
I was stuck with a choice between a few different options. When I couldn’t decide what topic to go with, I turned it into a sort of random poll. I assigned a number to each of my three options and then got people to vote on 1, 2, or 3, without knowing what the real options were. Maybe I should have just listed the potential themes and let people vote that way.
Anyway… One was DC Comics characters. Two was movies. Three was some kind of interconnected fictional tale.
I’m glad no one picked three. Because I think that would have proven to be the biggest challenge, especially when I haven’t flexed that side of my creativity in a while.
I’m a little glad no one picked the DC Comics characters, too. I mean, I think I could have done it. Aquaman… Batman… uh… Condiment King…? (He’s real, look him up…) Catwoman would probably be better for C anyway. Maybe next year…
So I’ll be going with movies. Since that got all of five votes. (The online polls that I post are super popular!) Each day I’ll be going through a movie to correspond with that day’s letter of the alphabet. And I’ll be doing it in the same way I’ve been doing my favorite movies countdown. But I’ve placed a couple of extra rules on myself for this thing.
Second: If a movie title starts with “The,” “An,” or “A” I’m ignoring that and the starting letter will come from the first substantial word in the title. Should go without saying. I just don’t want anyone getting hung up on semantics.
Right… Well, I’ve gone ahead and made up a list of 26 movies that I’ll be watching over the course of April. I’m not going to provide the list here, I’ll just let each day be a special little surprise.
I will say, however, that some of the letters have proven difficult to find good movies for. Q? Not a whole lot there. X? Thank God for the X-Men franchise, right? Oh… spoiler alert. Guess what I’m watching for X…
