A Lack of History

It’s a little strange, having a new blog. Well, new-ish. This thing’s been here for almost a month. That’s kind of hard to believe. Still, it’s new compared to where I’ve come from. Over at Carp Dime, I’ve been blogging for 10 years. There’s a massive history there with a huge back story that I just don’t feel like I have here. And that’s because I don’t have more than 2,000 previous blog posts to draw from and build upon.

Look, I’m not trying to delude myself into believing that I have (or had) a record breaking following on my old blog. At best, there were 60 people who were subscribed to the thing. That probably translated to about 6 people who checked the site whenever I posted something new. But I could at least pretend that I could mention anything from a past blog post and imagine that anyone reading would understand what I was talking about.

I can’t do that here. I can’t just assume that anyone reading these words knows that I grew up in Roanoke. I can’t just assume that you know that Back to the Future is the greatest movie ever made. I can’t just assume that you know I spent several years hating my position as a bank teller. Yes, I know I could easily link back to specific blog posts if I wanted to make sure you had all the pertinent information. But it’s a job of work to go back and research my own blog. And who’s to say you’re going to click on the links anyway? Maybe you’re just casually checking out The Confusing Middle and you’re not interested in finding out which Disney princesses I think are datable.

I guess I should just ask you to stick with me for a while. Eventually, I’ll develop a sense of history here at The Confusing Middle like I did over at Carp Dime. It’s probably ridiculous to think that’s coming after 27 days of existence.
