I came across an interesting writing prompt and thought I’d give it a shot… Write a dialogue between a detective and a quirky witness to a crime.
Detective: Good afternoon, I’m Detective Johnson. You witnessed the incident that took place earlier today, correct?
Witness: Oh, hello there! Yes, I most certainly did. It was quite the spectacle, I must say. I was just minding my own business, watering my petunias, when suddenly… BAM! All the commotion started.
Detective: I see. Can you describe what you saw in detail, please?
Witness: Well, it was precisely 2:37 PM… or was it 2:38? You know, I really should start wearing my watch again. Anyway, I heard this loud noise, like a cross between a cat’s meow and a foghorn. Quite peculiar, if you ask me.
Detective: (sighs) Let’s focus on the events, shall we? What happened after you heard this… noise?
Witness: Ah, yes! I turned around, and there was this fellow, dressed in the most outrageous outfit. He had on a neon green jacket and purple pants. Quite the fashion statement, if you ask me. Although, I’m not sure it’s appropriate for a Tuesday afternoon.
Detective: Can you describe his appearance? Any distinguishing features?
Witness: Oh, he had a mustache! Not just any mustache, mind you. It was one of those fancy, twirly ones. You know, like the villain in those old silent movies. I wonder how much time he spends grooming it each morning…
Detective: (interrupting) Did you see where he went after the incident?
Witness: Let me think… Ah, yes! He hopped onto a unicycle and started pedaling away. I remember thinking to myself, “Well, that’s not something you see every day.” But then again, I once saw a man juggling pineapples while riding a llama, so I suppose anything’s possible.
Detective: (exasperated) A unicycle? Are you certain about that?
Witness: Absolutely! I have a keen eye for detail, you know. I also noticed that his shoelaces were untied. Quite dangerous, if you ask me. One wrong move and he could’ve ended up face-first on the pavement.
Detective: (sighs deeply) Alright, I think I have enough information for now. If we have any more questions, we’ll contact you. Thank you for your… unique perspective on the events.
Witness: Oh, it’s my pleasure! You know, this reminds me of the time I witnessed a group of squirrels performing a synchronized dance routine. Truly remarkable. Nature never ceases to amaze me. Would you like to hear about it?
Detective: (quickly) That won’t be necessary. Have a good day, ma’am.
Witness: You too, Detective! And remember, always keep an eye out for the extraordinary in the ordinary. Life’s too short to miss out on the little quirks and wonders that surround us!
