Hey friends! Who’s up for a trip down memory lane to the early 2000s and the days of the Nintendo GameCube? I was in college when the GameCube was first released, so I have many great memories of playing games on that funky little purple cube with some of my closest friends back in the day.

The GameCube may not have sold as well as the monstrous PlayStation 2, but it had some absolutely legendary games. From Mario to Metroid, the GameCube library was filled with classics. Let’s reminisce about some of my personal favorites!

Super Mario Sunshine will forever be etched in my brain. Running around Isle Delfino with F.L.U.D.D. on Mario’s back allowed for such creative platforming and gameplay. And who could forget that awesome tropical soundtrack? It really made me feel like I was on vacation battling pollution as Mario. Ahh, good times.

Luigi’s Mansion was a blast too. I loved the ghostbusting premise and getting to finally play as Luigi. The creepy atmosphere, puzzles, and exploration made this an unforgettable adventure. I’ll always remember that nervous shiver running down my spine whenever a ghost popped out of nowhere!

Of course, we can’t have a conversation about the GameCube without mentioning MarioKart: Double Dash!! This iteration of MarioKart stood out for its co-op racing mechanics. Having two characters on each kart led to all sorts of chaos and hilarity. My friends and I would play it for hours, getting into intense competitive battles on tracks like DK Mountain and Waluigi Stadium. I can still feel the sting of getting hit with that massive blue shell.

Beyond Mario, the GameCube saw some other amazing games. Crazy Taxi was just a delightfully madcap experience, weaving through traffic and causing mayhem to get passengers to their destinations as fast as possible. I also have to shout out Donkey Konga – because come on, bongo drumming to pop songs was just too much fun!

And of course, Metroid Prime. This phenomenal first-person adventure took the classic Metroid formula into 3D so incredibly well. Exploring the planet Tallon IV and discovering power-ups never got old. The atmosphere, music, and sense of isolation were just brilliant. Definitely one of the GameCube’s crown jewels in my opinion.

Ah the nostalgia is real! I could honestly go on all day about the great GameCube experiences etched into my memory. But I’d love to hear your thoughts too! What were some of your favorite GameCube games back in the day? Share your memories and let’s keep this purple cube love going strong!
