2024 A to Z Challenge – Theme Reveal

I feel like I’m always debating with myself at this time of the year. Do I participate in the April A to Z Challenge or not? The answer, since 2019, has usually been yes. I say usually because, for some reason, I didn’t do it last year.

Looking back, I’m pretty sure I didn’t participate in 2023 because I was basically not blogging at all during that stretch of time. In the entire month of March, I did one post. And that was on March 2. My next post wouldn’t come until April 29 when I decided to introduce my dog Krypto to the world. I don’t think I got back to a regular blogging schedule until the fall of last year.

So here are the themes I’ve done in the past…

2019: Movies – Could have been any movie as long as it began with the letter of the day.
2020: Disney Movies – Anything considered feature length that was found on Disney+. (The only exception came when I got to X and there were no X titles on the streamer at the time, so I had to go with the pilot episodes of the X-Men animated series from the 90s.)
2021: Characters from DC Comics
2022: Stories based on 1-word writing prompts – I got friends and family to provide me with words based on each day’s letter. Then I challenged myself to write short bursts of fiction that tied together to form a month-long narrative. Oh, and it was set in the DC Universe. That one was fun.
2023: Didn’t participate…

And now we’ve come to 2024. Having been inspired by the recent Disney+ adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, along with Rick Riordan’s new installment in that book series, this year’s theme will follow Greek Mythology.

The Greek myths have always fascinated me, ever since I was a kid. Reading Edith Hamilton’s Mythology was one of the few books I actually wanted to read when it was assigned in my freshman English class. And it’s one of the very few books I still have from my high school days. So for each day, A through Z, I will explore a different mythological figure. These characters must come from the Greek side of things. Their Roman counterparts won’t count.

See you back here on April 1 for… well… can you guess? There are lots of Greek figures beginning with A. Five are in the pantheon. The first figure will be revealed in a couple of weeks!
