Nineteen – Bloganuary

Welcome to Bloganuary. It’s this thing that WordPress is doing to encourage bloggers to post something every day by providing a regular prompt. I think that “Bloguary” would not only sound better but makes more sense. Maybe they’re saving that for next month. But if they go with Blogebruary I’m dropping out. Anyway, today’s prompt asks the question: What makes a good leader?

I don’t mean to brag, but leadership is kind of my thing. I’m kind of a big deal. Just ask the flock – I’m the cock of the walk around here! But in all seriousness, being a leader takes more than just strutting around and pecking at people. Here are a few tips from an expert (wink wink):

  • Listen up. A good leader doesn’t just cluck orders at people all day. You’ve got to actually pay attention to what your team is saying. Understanding their needs is key to keeping them motivated. But don’t worry, you can still sneak in the occasional nap while they chatter away.
  • Spread your wings. Like a mother hen, a good leader protects and provides for their team. Guide them to opportunities and resources that will help them thrive. Shelter them from potential dangers. And if all else fails, puff up and chase away predators!
  • Let them fly solo. Chicks learn to fly by jumping out of the nest. As a leader, you’ve got to let your team spread their own wings sometimes. Give them space to take risks, make mistakes, and grow. Offer guidance, sure, but avoid micromanaging.
  • Always be clucking. Communication is critical for any crack team of egg layers! Keep your flock informed and inspired with regular updates. And pro-tip: food incentives don’t hurt either.

Well, those are just a featherweight few tips for now. What do you think makes a good leader? Leave a comment below with your thoughts! Til next time, keep on peckin’!
