Sixteen – Bloganuary

Welcome to Bloganuary. It’s this thing that WordPress is doing to encourage bloggers to post something every day by providing a regular prompt. I think that “Bloguary” would not only sound better but makes more sense. Maybe they’re saving that for next month. But if they go with Blogebruary I’m dropping out. Anyway, today’s prompt asks the question: Where can you reduce clutter in your life?

I’m sure we all struggle with clutter from time to time. And by “from time to time,” I mean constantly, am I right? But never fear – your old pal Peckapalooza has some tips for decluttering your life once and for all (or at least until next week when the piles start forming again).

First things first – your closet. When’s the last time you actually wore that tie-dye t-shirt you got at that music festival in 2002? Or those jeans that stopped fitting in college but you “might fit into again someday”? Into the donation pile they go! Just think – more room for new clutter!

Next up – your bathroom. Why do you have 87 lotions and potions that you never use? And 15 different shampoos because you always “need options”? Pare it down to the essentials. Your skin and hair will thank you, and so will your storage space.

Now for the kitchen – do you really need 14 different spatulas? Or gadgets to make foods you’ve literally never cooked? Be ruthless and start purging. The only items that should stay are the ones you actually use on a regular basis.

And don’t even get me started on kids’ toys. I mean, I don’t have kids myself, but I know those things multiply like gremlins when wet. Regularly go through and donate the stuff they’ve outgrown or lost interest in. Your kids will survive without that singing princess castle they haven’t touched in 3 years.

Whew, I’m feeling lighter just thinking about all that decluttering! What about you? What areas of your life need a purge? Share your struggles in the comments below. We’re all in this together, friends. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a massive pile of clutter calling my name!
