Because today is World Party Day, our Sunday Scribblings prompt for this week is Party. If you decide to write a post based on this week’s prompt, be sure to go back here and share your link so everyone can see how you interpreted things! Here’s what I did with it…
I’m pretty sure the last time I attended any kind of party was two years ago. I showed up for a surprise birthday party and I just happened to be the guest of honor. This was early March in 2020. It was right after this that the world shut down.
I haven’t been to a party since then. And I’m really okay with that.
I’ve never been much for crowds. So I’ve never been much for parties. I’m sure I’d be less inclined to attend a party these days, since I’m certain the pandemic taught me how to be anxious about being around large groups of people.
I never experienced any parties in high school. At least, not like you see in the movies. Not sure I’d have actually enjoyed myself, anyway. I did get invited to a party at the home of one of the popular kids during my junior year. Pretty sure I only got that invite because I happened to be sitting near a group that were talking about it and the girl who was hosting felt funny about not inviting me, too. I went, not sure what to expect. I was surprised to find it was a fairly quiet affair. But her dad was a city judge, so that may have explained the atmosphere.
I’m awkward at parties. I don’t know how to talk to people unless they approach me. There could be a handful of people I’ve known my whole life and I’d still have difficulty walking up and inserting myself into the conversation. So I typically stand off to the side, playing the wallflower card until someone decides to engage me in a discussion of some kind.
I guess parties just aren’t my thing…
Thanks to everyone who participated this week and shared your links! Please visit their blogs, give them a follow, and take a look at how they interpreted the prompt.
Be sure to come back on Wednesday for the next Sunday Scribblings prompt! Encourage other bloggers to challenge themselves with the prompt! Remember that there are no rules for what you write, other than responding to the prompt! You can write fiction, non-fiction, poetry, prose, biography, instruction… it’s all up to you!
