Halloween

Because today is Halloween, our Sunday Scribblings prompt for this week is Halloween. If you decide to write a post based on this week’s prompt, be sure to go back here and share your link so everyone can see how you interpreted things! Here’s what I did with it…

What to say about Halloween?

It’s the end of October. Fall is finally here. And that part is fantastic.

I thought summer was going to last forever. Not necessarily the season, which ended on September 22… but those high temperatures and high humidity. I thought it was inescapable.

But the leaves are finally changing color. Around here, that’s kinda beautiful.

I won’t be trick or treating… I also won’t be handing candy out to any neighborhood freeloaders.

For the last couple of years, I’ve been at my apartment for Halloween. And since our building doesn’t have any kids in it and requires permission to get into, we typically don’t have kids going door to door.

This year I am housesitting for family that’s out of the country for a few weeks. I’m not sure what their neighborhood is like on Halloween, but I’m planning to leave the lights off. Hopefully that will be enough of a sign to ward off the traditional costumed beggars.

Not that I have a “bah, humbug” attitude toward Halloween. As a kid I always enjoyed dressing up. Sometimes I still do, if the occasion calls for it. If I had the opportunity to go to conventions and what not, I’m sure I’d enjoy being one of those cosplaying types.

Halloween is fine for those who like to go all out for it. I just don’t have it in me. I understand it to be like most holidays once you enter adulthood. Eventually you get old enough that it just loses its magic. I hear the magic returns when one has children of their own and are able to see the holidays through their young eyes. But I’m not there, either.

For me, Halloween just means sitting inside and probably watching a handful of scary movies.

Thanks to everyone who participated this week and shared your links! Please visit their blogs, give them a follow, and take a look at how they interpreted the prompt.

Be sure to come back on Wednesday for the next Sunday Scribblings prompt! Encourage other bloggers to challenge themselves with the prompt! Remember that there are no rules for what you write, other than responding to the prompt! You can write fiction, non-fiction, poetry, prose, biography, instruction… it’s all up to you!
