Theorizing that one could time travel within his own lifetime, Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the quantum leap accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own, and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better. His only guide on this journey is Al, an observer from his own time who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. And so, Dr. Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home.

Her Charm

• Sam leaps into a man in a suit and overcoat ringing a doorbell.
• The woman who answers the door seems super disappointed to see him standing on her doorstep.
• She hands Sam her luggage and nervously looks around as she makes her way to the car parked in the driveway.
• The woman addresses him as Peter and is impatient to get away from there.
• Sam doesn’t seem to have the keys and she suggests they’re under the seat.
• They both just happen to lean down as a car drives by with a passenger firing a machine gun in their general direction.
• September 26, 1973
• The drive-by car comes to a stop and the man with the gun gets out, approaching Sam and the woman to make sure he got the job done.
• But he’s surprised when Sam suddenly throws the car into reverse, slamming into the front of the drive-by car.
• Sam drives away and the thug driving the other car says there’s suddenly something wrong with the steering.
• The woman with Sam demands that he take her to the federal building so she can complain to someone named Richardson about Sam’s incompetence.
• He takes her to the ER first because she’s bleeding after being covered in broken glass from the shoot out.
• Sam figures out that he is Peter Langly, an FBI agent tasked with escorting Dana Berrenger into witness protection.
• Al reveals that Dana used to be the personal secretary of one Nick Kochifos, who has all sorts of illegal dealings going on.
• Dana found out about it all and testified against him.
• Unfortunately, the jury found Nick not guilty instead of putting him in prison for life.
• Now Nick wants revenge and will succeed in killing Dana this afternoon unless Sam can change history.
• Richardson informs Dana that her new identity will be ready in two days and, until then, she will go with Langly to a safe house in Baltimore.
• She’s not thrilled about this, still believing that Peter Langly is the most inept FBI agent they could have assigned to her case.
• Elsewhere, Nick (the shooter from earlier) is planning his next hit while his driver tries to talk him out of it, telling him that the girl isn’t worth all this trouble.
• Al and Sam are concerned that Nick has broken Dana’s cover twice at this point, but Richardson tells Sam that they are the only two who know about this back up plan to take a laundry truck from Boston to Baltimore.
• So if there’s a leak providing Nick with inside info, it’s either coming from Richardson or Sam (Langly).
• Sam and Al take the elevator down to get the laundry truck ready to go and Sam realizes he’s lived in Boston before.
• Al reminds him that he was the youngest person to ever graduate from MIT summa cum laude.
• This brings back more memories for Sam… He used to spend a lot of his weekends at a cabin up in the Berkshires.
• The cabin belonged to his professor, a Dr. LoNigro, and it was there that they came up with Sam’s Quantum Leap “string theory.”
• Sam makes the decision to take Dana up to that cabin instead of to the safe house in Baltimore.
• This buys them some time, as they get past Al’s initial deadline of when Dana was supposed to be killed.
• Dana shares how stupid she feels for trying to do the right thing… now she’s on the run for her life and, if she survives, she’ll have to spend the rest of her life pretending to be someone else.
• Sam promises her that he won’t let Nick hurt her.
• Back in Boston, Richardson receives a report that Dana should have been at the safe house by now and they haven’t shown up.
• Dana finally pays attention to her surroundings and realizes they’re in the mountains… not something that Baltimore has an abundance of.
• Nick catches up to the laundry van and starts shooting.
• Dana retaliates by tossing full laundry bags out the back of the van, causing Nick’s driver to crash.
• It looks like Sam and Dana will get away…
• Until Nick pulls out a case labeled Federal Bureau of Investigation out of his trunk.
• Inside is a tracker that he activates, making it impossible for Dana to really get away from him.
• As it gets later and they get closer to the professor’s lake cabin, Dana sort of reveals that there’s an attraction between her and Peter.
• But it’s the kind of thing that could never work.
• When they arrive at the cabin, they nearly kiss, but Dana stops them.
• Sam gets a fire going and Al shows up and says the new deadline is early the next morning.
• Before Al leaves, he warns that just because the time of death is in the morning it doesn’t mean that Nick couldn’t catch up before then.
• Sam says Nick is on his way but can’t explain to Dana how he knows.
• When they decide to make a run for it, the laundry van breaks down, stranding them at the cabin.
• Sam hands his gun to Dana while he checks under the hood.
• But she discovers that the fuel gauge was stuck on 1/2 and they’re really out of gas.
• She tosses Sam the gun and, not ready for it, he falls into the lake.
• Back inside the cabin, Sam sits by the fire to dry off while Dana regrets never really feeling like she got a chance to fall in love.
• This leads to the kiss that didn’t come earlier.
• Then Dana notices the matchbook that Sam used to start the fire earlier…
• It has a phone number that she clearly recognizes.
• Dana pulls away from Sam and grabs his gun off the table, pointing it at him and threatening to kill him.
• She tells him not to come closer or she’ll shoot… but Al arrives and tells Sam the safety is on.
• Dana tries to pull the trigger but can’t and throws the gun at Sam before running out of the cabin.
• Sam shows Al the matchbook and he confirms that it’s Nick’s private number.
• Al says she’s eight minutes away from being killed, so Sam takes off after her.
• Nick finds her and chases her into the woods…
• Sam finds her, too… but she doesn’t trust him and runs off to try and get away from both of them.
• Al centers on Dana and sees that she’s taken a bullet to the arm.
• He calls out to Sam, leading him back to her… but when Sam gets to where she is, she hits him over the head with a tree branch.
• Sam tells Dana that he doesn’t want her to die… then tells Al to go back to the trail and warn him when Nick is close.
• Dana realizes that Sam hasn’t been talking to himself… he’s been talking to an imaginary friend.
• Sam comes dangerously close to outing himself as Sam Beckett, saying that Pete might want Dana dead, but that he doesn’t, asking her to just trust him.
• Nick confronts Sam, asking why he took off the way he did.
• He assumes that Dana somehow got to Pete…
• When Nick is about to fire his gun at Dana, Sam throws her to the ground and shoots Nick himself.
• Nick’s driver picks up Nick’s dead body and tearfully asks, “Why didn’t you listen to me? God didn’t want her to die.”
• Back in the cabin, Sam gives Dana the gun again, warning her that Pete will be back to normal soon, so she’ll need to keep him held at gunpoint until Richardson arrives in less than an hour.
• Al reveals that Pete is sentenced to 8-10 years and that Dana testified on his behalf, which saved him from 15-20 years.
• Dana then goes to law school and becomes a senior partner at Elroy, Elroy, and LoNigro.
• Which must mean that Dana Berrenger has a name change?
• Just then, Professor LoNigro enters his cabin with a box of supplies.
• Sam excitedly jumps up and tells him that their string theory works and tells him that he’s Sam Beckett… just as he leaps out.
• And leaps into an unfortunate man in an interrogation room getting the crap beat out of him by what I can only assume is a corrupt sheriff.
• He’s dragged back to his jail cell and looks in a mirror over the sink and says, “I’m an Indian!”
• I’m sure Sam really meant to say Native American.
• To his surprise, his elderly cellmate, also a Native American, tells him, “It could be worse. You could be a white man.”
• Oh boy…
