Bat

Because tonight is International Bat Night, our Sunday Scribblings prompt for this week is Bat. If you decide to write a post based on this week’s prompt, be sure to go back here and share your link so everyone can see how you interpreted things! Here’s what I did with it…

I assume International Bat Night is designed to recognize that winged mammal that inspired one Bruce Wayne to don the cape and cowl in order to strike fear into the hearts of Gotham City’s criminals and villains and not a promotional event designed to encourage people to show up at tonight’s local baseball game because the first 100 attendees will receive a free baseball bat.

How’s that for a run on sentence?

I’ve never seen a live bat close up. I had a roommate once who studied bats extensively as part of his focus in grad school. But he really didn’t bring his work home with him. And I’m okay with that.

I say that… but I’m not sure that bats would freak me out. I mean, if I found myself swarmed by bats (do bats swarm? flock?) I’d probably freak out. But I could handle being introduced to one bat. Even holding it or petting it.

I really don’t have much to say about a bat. But I’ll leave us with this… While Black Sheep is the inferior Chris Farley/David Spade collaboration (Tommy Boy is definitely better), it did leave us with this nugget of wisdom: “You can’t catch a bat with a pot!”

Thanks to everyone who participated this week and shared your links! Please visit their blogs, give them a follow, and take a look at how they interpreted the prompt.

Be sure to come back on Wednesday for the next Sunday Scribblings prompt! Encourage other bloggers to challenge themselves with the prompt! Remember that there are no rules for what you write, other than responding to the prompt! You can write fiction, non-fiction, poetry, prose, biography, instruction… it’s all up to you!
