Welcome to The Best Movies I’ve Never Seen! This is the part of the blog where I work my way through 100 films I’ve never seen that are generally considered to be great. You’re invited to watch along with me if you can find a copy or find it streaming. So grab some popcorn and let’s get started!
Before Sunrise
1995
Directed by Richard Linklater
Quick synopsis… A Eurail pass is a ticket to romance for an American youth and a French student who spend an unforgettable day together in Vienna.
- If you’ve been following my blog for the duration of this “Movies I’ve Never Seen” list, you’ll probably know I already did a post for the sequel, Before Sunset.
- However, prior to beginning this list, I was informed that I needed to see Before Sunrise first.
- And that’s what I did.
- So this post has been sitting on the schedule, ready to go since December.
- How’s that for commitment to a blog series?
- Jesse and Celine meet on a westbound train and are mutually intrigued/annoyed by a arguing German couple.
- They spend some time together and enjoy one another’s company.
- But he’s getting off in Vienna and she’s going all the way to Paris.
- When the train stops, he convinces her to spend the night hanging out with him in Vienna.
- This isn’t the kind of movie I can provide a play by play for.
- Because it’s 95% conversation.
- Jesse and Celine spend all night going from place to place in Vienna having these incredible conversations.
- And it’s kind of adorable the way they connect and fall for each other.
- Yet… they part the next morning, knowing Celine has to get back on the train to Paris and Jesse has to catch his flight back to the US.
- Before saying their goodbyes, they agree to meet back in Vienna six months later.
- Do they actually make it back to Vienna in December?
- Having now seen Before Sunset, it currently ranks at 287 out of 2,265 movies on my personal Flickchart list.
Have you seen Before Sunrise? Have you seen the entire Before trilogy? Should I make time for the third installment, Before Midnight? It’s not on this list, but I’m sure I could make time for it if I’m told it’s worth my time.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!! I am so glad you watched it first because you really did need to see it first.
Before Sunrise is the best out of the trilogy. Actually only Before Midnight is ugh. But man do I love the first two! I can’t really give my reasons for why the third is ugh without spoiling it for you if you decide to watch it. But if you want reasons, I’ll send an insta message 😂

So glad to know you watched the movies in order per our request. The conversations in Before Sunrise really are more fascinating than I was expecting. Having seen the entire trilogy, I will say that it is worth finishing. Whenever you have the time of course.
