Because today is Baby Day (who makes these days up?), our Sunday Scribblings prompt for this week is Baby. If you decide to write a post based on this week’s prompt, be sure to go back here and share your link so everyone can see how you interpreted things! Here’s what I did with it…
Anyone else notice how often the word “baby” is used in songs?
It’s a lot.
Sometimes it feels like, if the lyricist couldn’t think of anything else clever to say, they just threw in a few babies just to fill in the blanks.
I think the word’s use may be more prominent in my mind than it is in reality. I did a quick search and it turns out the only decade where “baby” was the most used word in music was the 1960s. But just because it doesn’t necessarily crack the top five in later decades doesn’t mean it isn’t overused, right?
Am I the only one who hears it? That’s possible.
Though, to be fair, I don’t listen to a lot of modern music. There are only a handful of artists who are popular today that I actually want to hear. Most music today is noise… in my opinion.
I know… I’m old.
Thanks to everyone who participated this week and shared your links! Please visit their blogs, give them a follow, and take a look at how they interpreted the prompt.
Be sure to come back on Wednesday for the next Sunday Scribblings prompt! Encourage other bloggers to challenge themselves with the prompt! Remember that there are no rules for what you write, other than responding to the prompt! You can write fiction, non-fiction, poetry, prose, biography, instruction… it’s all up to you!

I hear it too!!! HHahaha! Although I’ve stopped listening to secular music, haven’t in about a year. Like I don’t drive so I don’t listen to the radio, and I’m only a 15 min walk to work so it’s kind of pointless to put in headphones only to have to stop and turn everything off and then mask up before going into the building when we are there. So I rarely listen to any music at all.

A very interesting take on this topic. I was not expecting it but you make a very good point 👏

I listen to a lot of pop music and can confirm that baby is a pretty popular affectionate word used, at least to my ears! I think it can fill space, and make the relationship with the other clear, and its gender neutral, so I get why it gets used a lot.
